LIDO, Origo — Restaurant in Riga

Crowded, service is alright. Place looks clean. I like they have where to wash hands and terrace, out doors is refreshing on hot weather. Nice decorative flower pots. The place looks well taken care of over all. Only on kids dropping the food from cashier out no one from staff offered to help. However someone did come clean right away. Food I find it expensive for small portions, the taste is average. Old style inside the restaurant. Reduced space, too many tables. Not really nice selection on beverahes specially there are not freshly squeeze juice selection. Didnt find any orher choice on soup rather than one, was surprised as other Ludo offer two or three choices in soup. Choices are limited but it looks like a traditional popular location. Lido chain used to be a great place to eat tasty food in the city of Riga a few years ago during my visits here. Not sure what happened, but now it is a big disappointment. The food has hardly any taste, the menu has downgraded. Soups come in two types only now, while it was way more options than this before the pandemic. Cabbage which is a signature Latvian way of cooking is now not even close to what it was in the past. We tried the pork kebabs, there were a disaster, left the pieces after only one bite. The only things that are worthy to try are the fruit teas and desserts. Do not waste your euros on this place unless you are just grabbing a coffee or tea before catching a train. LIDOs are a must-visit when in Riga. It is in a couple of places in the city, we've visited the one by the train station (Origo), the one in the Old Town (Alus sēta) and one of the ones in the center (Vērmanītis) - personally, we prefered Origo and Vērmanītis because there was bigger selection, even more so in the 2nd one, however, there were no English translations in that one. It is in a bit of a canteen-style where you can decide on what sidedish and all you feel like, they serve big portions, always with a fair range of options of desserts and salads, for very affordable prices.
