One of the oldest brick churches in Kaunas and a good example of Lithuanian Gothic) Its full name is Vytautas'the Great Church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin Mary. It was built on the bank of the river Neman around 1400. You can find this temple in the Old Town, not far from Perkunas' house. The church looks better outside than inside because of a modest interior decoration. The church is bright and even cute. You feel tranquility here. My recommendation)

Lankytina vieta ne tik piligrimams, bet ir senosios architektūros gerbėjams. Vytauto arba Švč. Mergelės Marijos ėmimo į dangų bažnyčia pastatyta XV a. Tai vienas iš pirmųjų mūrinių gotikinių statinių Kaune ir viena seniausių Kauno bažnyčių, unikalaus lotyniškojo kryžiaus plano, savito eksterjero Lietuvos ankstyvosios gotikos paminklas. Jame dominuoja monumentalus 28 m aukšto bokštas. . Šis statinys priklausė Pranciškonų vienuoliams, Napoleono karų metu jame buvo karinės amunicijos sandėlis, 1845 - 1953 m. čia veikė Ortodoksų katedra. Čia palaidotas rašytojas kanauninkas J. Tumas – Vaižgantas.

The view is beautiful. You can see the Neman in all its beauty. A very popular wedding destination. There’s always someone taking pictures in the cobbled streets around it as well. Very atmospheric!

Went on the bridge opposite to the church at night and I can say that the view of it is stunning. I haven't seen the church from the inside.

Nice church, we were the only visitors when entered. The river views aside the church are beautiful. Very relaxing spot.
