Beautiful and well-preserved house but was a tad bit disappointed with what I got.
Most of the museum was under renovation when I visited but they didn’t give notice of this anywhere (including online and when I bought tickets). If I had known I wouldn’t have spent RM10 to see practically nothing. Note that my review only speaks to the exhibits I saw on the ground floor - not sure if there was much more on the other floors which were closed for renovation. There was a full length movie made about Sun Yat Sen’s life and they had set up a corner in the museum to screen this film - not sure what was the point of this since it’s not a short form documentary and you can’t expect visitors to sit there for 2+ hours to watch a film from start to finish but it felt like they were screening the film to call it a day instead of putting more thought into the exhibits and accompanying explanatory notes.
I only came across the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Centre after my visit to this museum (didn’t have enough time to visit) - probably would have been more helpful to visit the memorial centre to learn more on the context around Sun Yat Sen’s work before coming here.
In here there were limited exhibits with posters covering only high-level information on the walls - which was not very...

Long review...
We came on day 4 of the recently reopened museum and chatted with the friendly and knowledgeable guide.
Although the museum is only on one floor and a bit small, there was lots to see and learn as you can tell from the many photos accompanying this review. For instance the reason why this place was chosen was for. It's strategic location in a multi ethnic neighbourhood where the Chinese could escape by the back alley easily.
You can also get the book at an additional Rm 30 and Dvd Road to Dawn at Rm 10 to learn more about the famous Penang meeting.
Dr Sun didn't spend that much time in Penang but in that short period he rallied many local Chinese and through his supporters managed to collect funds for the rebellion. Penang also sent many men who returned to fight. Dr Sun founded two schools and his followers established many schools...
Read moreA historical site which bears significant mark in modern history. It is a place where one can learn more about Dr. Sun Yat Sen, a prominent leader in China history.
The staffs are very friendly, and are enthusiastic to share historical facts to the visitors. The premise is very much well maintained, and much of the original setup was preserved. They also sell selected books pertaining to Dr. Sun, which I find very useful to supplement your visit there.
Entry fee is RM 10 for an adult, and RM 5 for a child. It is very much accessible to wandering travellers who opt to walk, riding a beca (trishaw), cycling, etc. Anything but driving as the road nearby is quite narrow with extremely limited parking space.
Once you are done with the exhibition, there is a park right across the road which you can sit down on one of the benches,...
