The Kimberley Street Food Night Market in George Town, Penang, is a popular destination for those seeking authentic Malaysian street food. Located at the junction of Kimberley Street, Cintra Street, and Sungai Ujong Road, the market operates from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM daily.

Visitors frequently praise the variety and quality of dishes available. Favorites include Char Kuey Teow, Kuey Chap—a dish featuring thick handmade noodles in a dark broth with ingredients like pig's skin, intestines, and duck meat—and See Ko Teng, a sweet dessert made with gingko, longans, and jelly.

Recent reviews highlight the market's vibrant atmosphere and delectable offerings. One visitor noted the deliciousness of the Char Kuey Teow, Penang Hokkien Mee, oyster omelette, satay, and char siew rice they sampled. Another recommended the Nasi Hainam with crispy pork belly or chicken from Lorong Susu Specialist BBQ, mentioning a nearby satay stand as also delightful.

However, some patrons have expressed concerns about hygiene standards and the market's popularity leading to higher prices. One reviewer mentioned that while the food is affordable, the hygiene could be improved, making the experience less risky for visitors. Another observed that the area is quite touristy, resulting in slightly elevated food prices.

Overall, the Kimberley Street Food Night Market offers a rich culinary experience with a diverse selection of traditional Penang dishes. Prospective visitors should be mindful of hygiene practices and potential price variations due to the...

An example of such an interesting ecosystem which can only exist when everyone involved strives for the greater good. No matter which shop you go into, you are free to order from any of the other hawkers and they will happily bring your food to you there. And the owner of that shop will also happily allow you to consume food from the hawkers, asking only that you at least order something from them as well. And that is an easy ask, since from char kway teow to fried oyster to kway chap to Chinese desserts and almost everything else, all the food here is delicious and reasonably priced. However, even the most perfect ecosystem will eventually be disrupted, as cracks have begun to form. New stores selling exactly the same cuisine have started to open shops along the street, prompting signs is the shops prohibiting consumption of competing fare. For example, I counted no less than 3 stores selling Chinese desserts such as ching teng, almond soup and bo bo cha cha. Still, it's an amazing street to enjoy a huge variety of great food. And maybe you will marvel at the cohesiveness of the community like me. I smiled when we left, leaving behind plates and bowls from 4 different hawkers from 3 different shops, amused that we didn't have to clear our own dishes (which would have been quite a hassle since they were from different shops) and the various hawkers would come and clear their own...

I have never been ashamed of recommendations but this had me thoroughly disgusted. An entire lane catered to just earn tourist money and does not give you any value nor the real taste of Penang. The large fried medium omelette costing RM27 had like 6 large oysters and several small ones and that's about it. The rest are fillers with starch and eggs. To top it all off the taste was crap. What a complete rip off. The char koey teow had very little taste of the real Penang style or even a smitten of wok hei and had 3 small prawns. The laksa cost RM8 for a small portion that had very little ingredients. When enquired in the local lingua the seller only smiled sheepishly and said that's the price here. They know they had nothing to offer the locals and that's why they don't even bother. Even the famous Michelin recommended kuey chap had the seller dipping sweats into the bowl. Sure the sellers don't hire foreign cooks here but if this is the standard, I'd rather have the foreigners mess up my dishes, at the risk of getting pitchforked from Penangites.

Skip this lane entirely if you want the real taste of Penang or if you value sanity, dignity or at the very least some semblance of hygienic practices.

Taste factor: 2.1/10 Cuisine:...
