Let's be honest, having a 1-star review would not affect its reputation. Although this may be a waste of time, I felt compelled to write this lengthy review. Anyway, my review comes with no ill intent and if you find this review disturbing, stop reading at any point. During my Dec trip, I was taken back by the state of the Y5 rooms in Tower 3, which apparently is a newer tower. as cleanliness are TERRIBLE! And to top it off, I have to vie for the room like a broker on steroids watching the stock market! 1) The lobby smelled of vehicle fumes & cigarette smoke. 2) Disregard of NO SMOKING sign, Part 1 – Smoking in the lobby is a common sighting, males and females alike. I chanced upon a Polis officer, took the opportunity to ask on the NO SMOKING policy & actions are taken. Unsurprisingly, he replied that these people have issues or being sot (crazy) while pointing to his head and walked off. No wonder no one is bothered with the NO SMOKING policy. 3) Floor was slightly wet & grimy on the feet. 4) Dust beneath the beds have been there since God knows when as I chanced upon the cakes of dust when picking up a dropped item. 5) Genting Highlands, naturally doesn’t require air-conditioning, but that doesn’t mean the fan switch needs to come with 2 options; OFF or on at FULL SPEED! Luckily, the fan wasn’t caked with dust, for the moment I switched on the fan & fearing allergies, I was treated to a spectacular show of “Flying Dust Parade”, hence forced to have the fan off throughout my stay. 6) Curtains have thick dust that is visible without even squinting to spot them. 7) Out of my own comfort, I cleaned frequent touch points but debris within the clothes rack proved more stubborn than a donkey. 8) Converse water notice – I am definitely up for environment friendly initiatives but the auto-off power points (3-pin plug & USB plug) takes “green” to the next level as possibly through frequent use, the power points have become loosen & a 3-pin plug or USB plug will auto dislodge from the socket. 9) Skirtings are coated with think dust. 10) Walls coated with a thin layer of mildew. 11) Feature wall doesn’t help with mildew & dirty spots that are patched all over. 12) Windows are equally dirty with its own array of dirt and “what have you not” competing to outshine the dirt within the room. 13) Bedsheets & pillowcases are equally yellowed, spotted with stains, where I have pulled out hair before tucking myself into bed. 14) Towels are less than desirable & shared the same traits as bedsheets; yellowed, stained & have hair concealed within the (towel) folds. 15) Hairdryer is another environmentalist & has an auto-off function, which stopped when using for less than 1 minute! 16) Blatant disregard of NO SMOKING sign, Part 2 – Smelled throughout my stay & spotted an extinguished cigarette butt on the eleventh-floor lift lobby. Needless to say, the butt was there from last night till next mid-morning, which makes one wonder what is the purpose of the CCTV, smoke detector system & housekeeping for. 17) Blatant disregard of NO SMOKING sign, Part 3 & an arguing PRC couple – I understand that when people are upset, they tend to be louder as displayed by the quarrelling couple with LOUD & strong Chinese accent. Shouting at the top of their lungs aside, but the (male) clown took a cigarette, happily smoked, continued shouting & threw the cigarette on the floor, all in full display of the public with zero farts given. Coincidentally, this couple quarreled on another day when I chanced upon them in the lobby. Needless to say, they don’t shy away from public appearances with their loud shouting which, inevitably made the public become their audience again. Despite its Guinness World Records of being the World’s Largest Hotel & its moniker of “Rising to Greater Heights”, has INDEFINITELY “raised” one’s expectations of the rooms, cleanliness & expectations in the opposite direction. I, for one, would be turned off in visiting Genting again, as if my visit alone would make any difference.

Living proof that bigger isn’t necessarily better. The hotel likes to advertise that it’s the largest in the world (by room number) with over 7000 rooms, and rightly so… it’s earned those bragging rights. But what you don’t get told (understandably!) are the problems that come with a hotel of this size. Upon arrival, check-in was an absolute mess. There are self-service check-in kiosks with staff around to help which is supposed to speed things up, but there aren’t enough kiosks for the number of guests so you can end up queuing for quite some time. When we checked in, the first of our two rooms went quite smoothly, albeit with a RM5 charge for checking in 15 minutes early. But when we tried to check in our second room, we just got an error saying “no rooms available” and asking us to seek assistance. After queuing for what seemed like an eternity for a different assistant (apparently the one manning the kiosk could do nothing), we were told that it’s just that the room hadn’t been cleaned yet. That was despite it being a good 15 minutes at least past the check-in time. Why couldn’t the largest hotel in the world just give us a different room that was clean? Or at the very least, tell us that was the problem at the kiosk rather than making us queue another 20 minutes for someone else who couldn’t actually help us? Why is it that if we’re 15 minutes early, we have to pay RM5, but if our room isn’t ready for an hour after the check-in time, we don’t get at least a RM5 discount? After getting something to eat, when we came back to the kiosks (and queued for a good while again) we managed to finally get our second room key. As for the rooms themselves, they’re fine, mostly. As other reviewers have said, the rooms are small, but I don’t find that a problem for a cheap hotel like this. What I did find bizarre though, is that we had to fit the bedsheets ourselves… the clean sheets and towels were all just left in a bag on our (unmade) bed. I’ve stayed in a good number of budget hotels in my time and I have never had to make the bed myself… not even in a youth hostel. Bizarre. I also had a tear in one of my pillowcases and the pillows themselves were awful, so neither me nor my wife were able to get a good night’s sleep. There was no working extraction in our bathroom so everything was still wet in the morning after having a shower the night before. Other than that, the room was okay. It should be noted that there is no air conditioning, though the ceiling fan was cool enough for us. There’s also no toothpaste or toothbrushes (there is shower gel/shampoo), so make sure to bring your own or head to the nearby Watson’s to buy some before it closes.

Checked in at 9.52pm and only went to the room at 11.10pm and the room wasn't even locked and there is smoking ashes on the ground, used towels in the sink, called the service number to asked about and told us to go down all the way to the check-in counter to queue again .... Went to queue... then when we bring the card to change the manager which was a she told us that we have to bring verification that was not said on the call and she have the face to say is obvious that we have to bring verification items! OBVIOUS?? HUH I DONT FREAKIN WORK HERE OR WHATEVER! I was also asking her why didn't she say it on the call she said that I was supposed to know!!?? Talked to her about the check-in asked why is the room a smoking room? She say she don't know what happened, she also said that we never ask to have non-smoking room. Aren't the person helping us to check in supposed to ask us how would we know what kind of details is needed ? Our grandfather is on a wheelchair want us to bring him up and down for so many times and it's already almost midnight if they need to verify why force us to bring him down but instead why can't they go to verify with us ? But what she talked to us for 5 minutes and when back to the staffroom to HIDE and say till we get the stuff needed she won't be come out. WHAT DO YOU ALL MEAN? On the day before we all checked in on the self kiosk and the scanning of all 10 of our passports took super long and clogged the queue the guests behind us even scolded us for it if your staffs know that we have that many of a passports and they just looked and turned away to help others that only have 1 or 2 passports only. Then my brother's had some issues asked the person to help and she dragged him out of the queue asked him to get out and self-checkin on the app but after he done that they made him to queue again. We went ROUNDS to get ourselves done. Is this how FIRST WORLD HOTEL SERVICES supposed to be?.. REALLY MESSED UP CHECKING IN AND SUPER BAD WITH ALL THE MANAGEMENT WE MET HERE!!

The check-in was not well-managed and the self-check-in kiosk was very slow and lagged a lot. There were many counters but few people manning them, so the check-in there would have been very time-consuming as well. They also messed up the accomodations initially by giving us a single queen sized bed instead of two single beds as requested. Furthermore, we requested non smoking rooms on a non smoking floor but somehow managed to get smoking rooms on a smoking floor. Sometimes, the lifts to our room didn't work, and they are a little dirty/sticky. The room was a little dusty, the TV connection/quality was quite bad, there's no wi-fi in the room and even in the lobby the wi-fi doesn't actually work. Even though we had a room in the non-smoking floor, we could smell the smoke in our room and we saw cigarette remnants on the trash bin. The toilet was also pretty small and there is no privacy since the toilet didn't have a door. at one point they forgot to give us towels so we didn't have towels to use for showering, but it was late at night so we didn't bother calling room service. There was also nowhere to hang clothes in the showering area. The rooms are not sound-proof so we could hear the pipes when people shower. The fridge was also quite stinky so we couldn't really use it, even after we called room service for it. However, it really is quite convenient as the tourist attractions and shops/restaurants are all nearby. Also, the room service did give us a lot of tissue packs. And fortunately, the rooms were cheap when we bought them.

0 stars if possible! Worst hotel check in experience!! Took 3.5 hours to get in. I hardly give bad reviews but this is a must and warning for others that might take the risk of a bad check in experience. I maybe the unlucky one unable to self check in, thus had to find staff queue to help which there was a line, when found my booking had to line up to get a number. When I got my number looking at the tv screen had to wait 70 people for the receptionist to get check in. Waiting for the receptionist was slow, people who missed their number the staff allowed them to cut through lines which anger some others that follow and waited properly for their number to be called. I complained to the receptionist why my passport couldnt by pass the self check in, got a reply that some countries passport cant which i thought was BS because my friend was able to self check in on skyworld genting hotel. Started the check in process from 3pm and by the time i got to my room was already pass 6:30pm. The staff was not helpful at all, you just have to follow their process and they dont care. Was pretty obvious that alot of people like me face similar issue. Room was disappointed no ac guess due its cool air up the mountain but window outside noisy of AC. Room, bed small felt like a 1 star room. Breakfast was far from this hotel, at least a walk 30mins to other side of another hotel to eat. Really not worth it, messed up my whole trip in genting. Genting itself was not bad.
