Usually, I’m not very fussy about hotels. But this was supposedly a 4 star location, so my expectations were high. Suffice to say, I was thoroughly disappointed.
Let’s begin with some positives. It’s within ten minutes walk to the sky casino and other Genting Highlands attraction. It’s definitely a great place to bring family and friends. There’s a very large array of restaurants and other eateries. There’s also some grocery stores for folks to pick up items they may need on the go. Overall, the Resort World complex was decent.
However, we then get to the Resort Hotel. Although the lobby is grand, the service is not. I am traveling with my grandmother, who has difficulty walking long distances. The long trek to all the attractions was very difficult for her. When I asked staff to please get us a taxi (in my opinion, there should be a shuttle readily available and we shouldn’t need to beckon taxis), they said they were all booked, and had no recourse for us. Why are we relying on local taxis when we could have a dedicated shuttle to and from the main attractions of the Resort World. It’s incredibly inaccessible. What’s more, the walking to the main attractions is incredibly inconvenient. There are very limited lifts and many, many escalators (which are not accessible at all, especially considering elderly people with wheelchairs). The kids also tend to get tired with the long distances, so that’s one thing to consider before booking your stay.
The other issue is the incessant charges and lack of amenities? For a FOUR STAR HOTEL in a RESORT, you’d at the very least expect complimentary WiFi in the rooms. As a student traveling, I need ready access to the internet. I imagine remote work parents would also require the same. Instead of complimentary WiFi, there is a 400 ringgit deposit and 30 ringgit per day charge for WiFi. Moreover, there is not a fitness center in sight, and one needs to travel to the other hotels and pay another fee to access such an amenity. I’ve been to 2 star and 3 star hotels that offer these amenities, so it was a disappointment to hear that these services are covered by paywall. The bright side is that there is complimentary WiFi in the lobby, but it is not designed for folks to do work for long periods of time. My recommendation to the establishment is to install desks and seating areas for folks to enjoy a more sociable and productive atmosphere, if they care at all about competition with their “4-star” equivalents.
There is technically a complimentary breakfast if you purchase the vouchers (which isn’t complimentary, let’s be honest). However, to access the breakfast buffet, you need to venture to the complete opposite side of the complex to the First World Hotel. Finding this location was torturous, especially given that the FW Hotel had absolutely no staff that were ready or willing to give directions. I don’t blame them, as they seemed under staffed and ill equipped to handle the questions of guests. This is a reflection of the establishments lack of care for the quality of service they provide.
I don’t usually write scathing reviews, but this hotel’s (and by extension, resort’s) treatment of its guests, lack of organization and preparation, inaccessibility (both physically and financially) move me to fully and wholly NOT recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Genting Highlands. There is so much natural beauty here, and it is a shame that a supposedly world class establishment treats its guests so poorly, ruining such an experience. I have had many friends and family ask me about recommendations for things to do in Malaysia, and it saddens me to say that I will only discourage them from staying here. As my stay concludes, I find myself counting the minutes until I...
Read moreChecked into this hotel thinking its some kind of luxurious place to stay in Genting. The service was not bad as the workers helped us to bring the luggages all the way from the lobby to our room. Was fascinnated by the design on the lobby as the celing looked stunning. Went to the hotel lobby restroom expecting it was also as luxurious as the lobby, only to realise that it was way worse that I expected, even the mall toilet looked and smelled better. But once I entered my room, things started to fall apart even more. First look was OK, didn't suspect any suspicious things. But after some inspections, noticed that the bed had some stains on it, wasn't cleant properly too. The cabinet from the room had access to the restroom, and it couldn't be locked. Next, the restroom had some major problems, some tiles were a bit cracked. Asked for extra bed and towels from the lobby. Waited more than 15mins for them to come. Turns out, they also forgotten to bring the towels, which took another 5mins. Service was quite slow. After searching for the wifi password card for quite long, I went to the lobby for some information. Unexpectedly, the lobby workers told me that there were no wifi in the rooms and you could only get acess to the wifi at the lobby, quite ridiciulous. Quite an distance to walk to the mall. Absolutely don't know why this hotel can be a 4 star hotel. I dont think the prices were reasonable for this type of hotel, but it's Genting Highlands. For some internet surfers, I personally don't think this hotel is suitable for you. Hope the management can solve...
Read moreWe love to stay at this hotel. The deluxe room is spacious, and the essential amenities are provided, e.g., toothbrush/paste, bath towels and hand towels, instant coffee/tea, iron and ironing board, bedroom slippers. The twin beds feel larger than normal super single beds but smaller than queen. The staff provided great housekeeping service, and check-in was hassle-free. They provide 2 small bottles of water daily, but there is no water fountain in this hotel. After registration at the concierge, you still need to get room key cards from a self-service machine if your room is not ready, and you need to pay tourism tax with a credit card. Some staff will help you if you encounter difficulties, e.g., scanning of passports. There is a convenience store at lobby but things are expensive. There is also Killiney Cafe selling great coffee and delicious local cuisine, and staff there are friendly. There is a shuttle service that brings you to First World Hotel every hour, but do let the bell boy know you're taking it so that they will notify the driver, else it would bypass the hotel. The shuttle bus is small though, but it provides convenient access to the coach bus terminal and Star Casino. There are 2 other restaurants on upper level (take escalators towards First World Hotel) and one eatery, Old Town Cafe, and some convenience shops at the basement (take elevator to...
