Fortuitously, Andrew was our guide for our hike to Coral Hill in the morning with our family (2 boys ages 7 & 9). We found Andrew very knowledgeable, engaging and patient during the hike, sharing with us the history, geography and botanical information of Cameron Highlands. The kids and adults enjoyed the mossy enchanted forest feel in the cool environment. Andrew shared that his family owns O&R Garden and invited us to visit the farm farm after lunch which we did!

O&R is large garden incorporating many varieties of flowers, plants and vegetables. The farm owns ~10 goats, a few sheep, 20+ rabbits, some geese and has a small fish pond. At the entrance of the garden, we purchased some feed for the animals. Andrew was kind to take us through the farm explaining to us the different plants and flowers which my parents (70s) enjoyed. We probably spent more than an hour on the farm.

All in all, if you enjoy being in nature and learning about the different plants, this garden provides a wonderful educational journey. There is an entrance free required. Check ahead of time if Andrew is available to take you through the garden which will definitely...

the garden itself is okay and for the price it’s a fun little activity but the animals are kept in very poor conditions. I was actually planing to just go to the cafe (jade vine) which was said to be a “hidden gem” with free roaming goats but not only where the goats locked up in small, dirty stalls and attached by their throat with a rope, the cafe also did not have the views since there is a construction site where there once used to be greenery. The other animals are not held in better consitions either. Rabbits locked up in wired cages above the ground which hurt their paws , dirty and isolated. Most of the animals have no shelter or any kind of grass or bedding. Everything looks neglected and dirty, empty or filthy water bowls, no enrichment of any kind. We walked past with some bread and the goats went ballistic like they were starving. I was not expecting this at all and would definitely not have spent my money in a place like this. The garden by itself would have been enough of an attraction, there’s no need to keep animals if there are no sufficient means to do it. Please don’t spend your money here and DON’T support this kind of...

We visited this garden whilst touring the area. Whilst it may seem good value at 10 MYR per adult, I would say two things:

  1. the place is large with many sections but for the most part, the flowers and plants were not in good condition meaning you don’t see very much in the way of variety
  2. this one is important. It may sound like it’s nice to have a petting zoo but we found it to be disturbing. The animals are kept in very small pens and cages. The flooring of most of these pens were wooden slats or metal mesh. This is clearly done so as to require minimal cleaning but means that the animals are extremely uncomfortable and were clearly distressed. They were hungry too as I expect that they’re only fed when visitors buy snacks for them. Some of the goats were really big and had tiny pens. I would question how often they get to roam free if ever.

If you are the owner or manager of this property, please consider the welfare of the animals - especially when out of season. Leave the place to the flora and remove the fauna!

We left this place feeling rather sad and frustrated.

Boycott this place until the...

This place is a hidden gem in Cameron Highlands, not crowded and it offers a wide range of different flowers. A place where you can literally slow down and smell the roses. We were lucky to have engaged Andrew as our guide up to Mossy Forest on a weekday, he is knowledgeable and shared a great deal on the local flora with us. After the trip up Mossy Forest Andrew showed us around O&R Garden, the hibiscus flowers were large and presented in a spectrum of different colours. He took time to introduce us the wide variety of plants in the garden and the best part was that he showed us edible fruits from plants that cannot be easily bought in the markets, the overall experience was 11/10. For the ticket price it was very worth it. I hope Andrew will continue to make improvements to the garden!
