I was informed that Merits is a newly established hotel in a newly developed area. I didn't expect much from it. My decision to stay at Merits was purely because it was not too far from Simpang Pulai and had some tourist attractions close by. There were some restaurants within 5 minutes drive too.
As I approached the hotel, I saw that there was so much construction work going on around it. This did not give a good first impression. Thankfully, the street facing Merits had ample parking space. Parked close to the main hotel reception area and was greeted warmly by the front desk personnel. The check-in experience was good. Quick and smooth. A deposit of RM50 was collected. I was told that it would be easier for me to park in the next street behind the main building. As it happened, my room was adjacent to the parking lot behind. Good job by the staff.
The entry to the hotel building from the rear had a security tag that opens with the room card. That reassured me. My room was next to the entrance. So, there are no awkward steps to climb. I have to point out that the lift was not in working condition. A demerit point there. The room was very spacious for 2 people. As per the norm in Cameron Highlands, no air-conditioning was provided. Only a single wall fan in the room. The twin beds were very comfortable. A desk attached to a rack with a mirrored door was in one corner close to the bathroom. There was a much needed water heater in the bathroom. Another demerit point is for the leaky bidet hose. That made the bathroom floor wet and slippery. As mentioned earlier, there were some restaurants in the area. I had an Arabian dinner in a mall close by. Later, I bought some things at a store close by to nibble in the room.
After a good night's sleep, I looked for a good place to catch the sunrise from the hotel. If not for the ongoing construction next door, the sunrise view would have been great. I checked out after a good hot shower. The water pressure is excellent. The checkout process was quick and easy. I would probably wait until all construction work is completed before...
Read moreWell, staying here I have few observations and highlights.
For improvement:-
The bathroom seat is broken ( refer picture below)
The water bidet is also broken and water leak ( refer to the below picture)
The lift is not working to the hotel room (it seems like the elevator is under repair or in service, as this hotel is newly opened in 2024 which still new), so if you’re travelling with family or elderly having luggages you may need to consider and required to climb multiple floors using emergency stairs.
The water dispenser area or corridor area has steps and ceiling height below 6ft, be careful and WARNED! (the management should consider putting warning sign alerting otherwise your head may get hit by the ceiling)- refer picture below.
Well, of course I made a call to report and lodge complaint for room maintenance of the bathroom, unfortunately the desk officer told me that the housekeeper team has off duty (it was around 6+pm) and been told the next available time to come repair the fixture is the next morning 9am— I find it unacceptable given you are provided hotel service telling customer to use a broken facilities/ not well-maintain and yet tell the customer to fix it the next morning. (By the way, there is no next available room because fully booked and we have to bear with it!—just for your information the room number is 2210-2nd floor)
For Highlights:-
i booked two nights at this hotel and did not have a good experience here. first, it was cold and rainy and the shower did not have hot water so showering was extremely uncomfortable. second, the whole room smelled like sewage. i’m not sure where the smell came from, if it was from the outside (the building next door was in construction - which also made my stay way less enjoyable since i couldn’t enjoy the quiet- and they were excavating the ground what could have potentially caused the smell….or if there was something wrong with the water or the toilet. i communicated that to the front desk after my first night, the lady said she was going to “check” our bedroom and did nothing to help us.
third, the bed was the hardest bed i’ve ever slept on..so hard that me and my boyfriend couldn’t sleep at all when i was there. finally, they also asked me for a deposit of 100$- that i was going to receive back at the check out (and i did) + 26$ for the state fee and tourist fee…
when i checked out today, i let the same person at the front desk know we were leaving because we were facing issues and that’s when she offered us to move to a different room... but at that point i had already booked a different hotel and had everything packed and ready to go…. and that’s when she got back to me saying she checked the water in the room and it wasn’t cold and that the smell also wasn’t bad.
“that’s why we are leaving. we’re staying for another day and having to move all of our stuff to go to a different hotel it’s an inconvenience for us, we would have preferred to stay…it would have been way easier”. that’s what i replied.
the good thing about it was the location-that is near all the main attractions-but that’s...
