The tranquil location is perfect to reflect upon the events of the fateful day, and is frequented by history enthusiasts and kin of the victims. The beach nearby is a popular surfing spot too. The tsunami that struck the Indian Ocean on the 24th of December claimed the lives of 74 Maldivians, and the Tsunami Monument is a monument marvel that stands as a beacon of hope after tragedy. The 20 steel spheres encircling the monument symbolize the atolls of the country, while the rising pillars stand for the waves of the tsunami. The rods of the structure pay homage to the victims of the disaster and the names of the 74 victims are carved on the edifice.

There are places to relax in the area. You can enjoy the view of ocean and sunset here. The monument is not very fancy and is quite small than what I imagined. But it's a good place to visit once.
