The Rinella bay is a beach mostly used by inhabitants of the island. You can have an awesome view over Birgu and Valetta from there. The swimming area is marked and it consists of a sand area in the middle and a rocky area on the right and left hand side of the bay. The water is relatively warm at the end of July and not that deep. The water is, despite the harbour proximity, mostly clean. However, having a shower after being there, might be advisable. There is a little parking area at the beginning of the bay as well as a little restaurant and a public toilet. The Ice cream car is also coming there and rings its bells when nearby. The whole beach area has rubbish bins so there is no need to leave your stuff on the ground. The only thing which might be annoying is the vicinity to the harbour. It isn’t clean in my opinion, it has a lot of rubbish on the sand and there was a rotting smell of sewage when we were swimming near the shore.
The sea isn’t that clean either because there were random plastic bags and waste of boats being brought to shore.
Not to mention the area is full of rude tourists to locals. Had an encounter where someone blamed me that I threw their sandals in the trash, which I didn’t because I was swimming when she was looking. When she noticed, her friend snatched my shoes and threw them in the bin while clearly insulting me in her language.
That’s beside the point since it’s about the bay itself.. I would also suggest being careful while getting in the sea because there’s a lot of sharp rocks that could hurt you while...
Read moreVery nice local sandy beach. Has several locations to jump into water, equipped with wooden benches to sit or lay down. Has a little path on the right, allowing to see fish above the underwater rocks. It was a pleasure to spend days here. However, a big issue is the absence of bins. There have to be many more rubbish bins available to visitors, so less rubbish is found around the beach and ends up...
