Dining in Malta has recently taken a slump. Prices are high, and service isn't great, but Marea seems to have kept their standards high and prices competitive with other establishments. Whilst the pricing isn't exactly a bargain, for the type of restaurant Marea is, it's justified. The servers are very attentive and polite. They're trained well on how to serve and open wine. There was only one server who I struggled to understand, but I can brush that off. The food was sublime and fresh. There was only one roll of sushi, which I didn't like, but that's down to personal taste rather than the roll not tasting good. However, for the pricepoint, I would have expected each roll on the chef's platter to have at least 6 pieces each rather than 4 pieces per roll. The atmosphere itself seemed slightly barren. It's not the first time I've been to Marea, but something is amiss. Regardless, this can be a positive as there's plenty of space, and for Sunday lunch, it wasn't too busy. Whilst Marea isn't perfect, with a few touches, details, and extra effort, it can certainly be.

My girlfriend and I celebrated Valentine’s Day by dining at this exquisite restaurant. Opting for the set menu turned out to be a splendid choice, as it allowed us to enjoy our time together without the hassle of deciding what to eat. The food served was nothing short of remarkable, and the restaurant’s stunning aesthetic added to the allure of our evening. The warmth and hospitality of the staff further elevated our experience, with a special shoutout to our waiter, Wilson, whose service was exemplary—thank you, Wilson. Among the array of dishes, one particularly captivated us. When we expressed our desire to have it again, the chef graciously offered it on the house, a gesture that left us pleasantly surprised. Overall, the evening was a delightful blend of culinary excellence, serene ambiance, and attentive service. We left with happy hearts and are eagerly anticipating our return.

Situated in a beautiful, quiet location overlooking Birgu and Valletta, far away from the bustling Maltese roads full of urban cacophony. Pleasant, yet not overwhelming music and lighting with a beautiful design of the restaurant creates a feeling of refinement. The stuff was very helpful and pleasant without being overly intrusive. The sushi platter was beautifully presented however, due to lack of tuna we were only given salmon which is understandable as the restaurant sources only fresh fish every morning. The fresh fish translated into exceptional great tasting sushi with some nice twists. Would gladly recommend the place to anyone looking for a quiet evening filled with capturing tastes.

“A wonderful place with a great view. The food and drinks were excellent, starting with the best Negronis in Malta, amazing homemade bread. Fluffy Bao buns and super tender octopus on baba ganoush. For the main course, we had Fire Cracker sushi with tuna and caviar! And sushi with soft shell crabs, everything was simply delicious. The absolute highlight was Michelle, our server. From the beginning, we felt so comfortable. She took great care of us and provided extremely knowledgeable information about the dishes. She loves what she does and promotes the restaurant’s offerings in a way we have rarely experienced. Many, many thanks for everything, we were super happy!”

Had a nice dinner out in this restaurant. Amazing starters to share, octopus was really one of the best ever had in Malta! Nice drinks and very wide range of wines!! Price on average for a good quality meal. The only issue was the door, sliding door hard to close and people were keep on leaving it open, in a quiet windy and cool night I didn’t like that having cold hair coming during my meal, several time my boyfriend had to stand up to close the door. But will definitely go back in this restaurant maybe in summer to enjoy the nice view and terrace they have outside .

Second experience at Marea the first was just perfect. Like the notice I left in September that of this evening ... No nothing to say about the staff it is perfect but a change in one of the a la carte dishes to end up with an almost ordinary chicken cutlet, very disappointed with the restaurant was half full but three huge tables of 6 to 10 people there was a hubbub and an abominable sound environment with music too loud for a romantic meal with air conditioning at 17 degree it's frozen In short not at all good evening...
