St. Paul's Cathedral — Attraction in Valletta

The worst experience in a religious place! At the church's yard, there was a sign for 'suggested donation' of immaterial amount of 2 euros. At the steps just before you entered the church, the sign didn't mention the word 'suggested'. The reason I went in is because the baby likes churches and wanted to see the icons. The Indian guy on the entrance demanded the 2 euros 'donation' and I explained that since the sign says 'suggested' I don't want to give the donation. He turned out that he didn't want to accept the definition of 'suggested' and demanded the entrance fee. I finally paid the fee because of the baby, where while he was giving me back the changes he mentioned that 'is not a fee is a donation'. Coming out of the church there was another sign which is visible while you coming out of the church (not in the yard), it was mentioned the word 'suggested' but obviously has been corrected by turning the board on the other side and making a new sign without the word 'suggested'. Coming out of the church my wife was furious because an employee there (second employee) come out where she was standing and he told to her that he needs to wipe the place behind her and he asked her to leave or go inside the church. Just to prevent you from thinking that 'is this comment for 2 euros now?' while I was outside and watching with the baby the small gifts from the gift shop where the Indian guy was sitting, many people (at least 10) came and directly went into the church (obviously because the sign outside stated that the fee is not mandatory) but he stopped them and requested for 2 euros and they left. The staff was very very rude and the event with my wife while this guy was whipping the dust just to make her leave the place...

Saint Paul’s Anglican Cathedral of Malta! Saint Paul’s, is the only Anglican Chuch in Malta, built by Queen Adelaide, the widow of King William IV. She initiated the project after she visited Malta only to find she had no place to worship. The church is self funded as the Malta government only helps fund Roman Catholic Churches. The Anglicans there made me fell right at home with lots of jokes and fun stories. I said to the volunteers “Please keep doing what you are doing! I truly believe in the Anglican Way! This is probably the only church for miles that a woman can preach in and where a gay couple can marry!” They whole heartedly agreed! I made a donation in exchange for a vintage blessed Book of Common Prayer that had been used at the Cathedral for ages before the new edition came out. Prokatedrala Svetog Pavla (Malti : Il-Pro-Katridral ta ' San Pawl), službeno Prokatedralna i kolegijalna crkva Svetog Pavla , je angličkaprokatedrala Europske biskupije nalazi se na Trgu neovisnosti, Valletta , Malta . "Prokatedrala" je crkva sa statusom katedrale, iako nije glavna katedrala. Jedna je od tri katedrale anglikanske Gibraltarske biskupije u Europi.Katedralu je naručila udovica kraljica Adelaida tijekom posjeta Malti u 19. stoljeću kada je saznala da na otoku nema anglikanskih crkava. Prije toga anglikanske su se službe održavale u sobi u palači Velikog meštra . Izgrađena na mjestu Auberge d'Allemagne (samostanski dom njemačkih vitezova Hospitallera ), katedralu je projektirao William Scamp , a sagrađena je između 1839. i 1844. Kraljica Adelaida položila je kamen temeljac 20. ožujka 1839. godine, a njezin natpis visi iznad korskih klupa. Izvorne planove dizajnirao je Richard Lankasheer; međutim, zgrada se pokazala nestabilnom, pa su se radovi morali nastaviti po nacrtima Scampa 1841. Scampovi nacrti smjestili su oltar na zapadnoj strani crkve, ali biskup Gibraltara imao je konzervativniji pogled, pa su nacrti izmijenjeni i Scamp dizajnirao je apsidu unutar velikih vrata za zadržavanje svetišta na istočnoj strani. Tijekom Drugog svjetskog rata katedrala je lakše oštećena, krov je nastradao ali veći dio konstrukcije ostao je netaknut. Tijekom restauratorskih radova počeli su se oblikovati originalni dizajni tvrtke Scump. Propovjedaonica je također bila ugrađena u zaslon posvećen Sir Winstonu Churchillu. Novu kancelariju posvetio je nadbiskup Canterburyja Geoffrey Fisher 2. prosinca 1949. u nazočnosti princeze Elizabete . Istočna strana katedrale tada je pretvorena u krstionicu. Podzemlje, izgrađeno od ostataka podruma Auberge d'Allemagne , nikada nije korišteno. 1928. g. Gibraltarski biskup Nugent Hicks otvorio je podzemlje kao novu župnu dvoranu. 1938. pretvoreno je u zračno-zaštitno sklonište otporno na plin, koje su u prvim danima sukoba koristili kapelan, njegova supruga i desetine malteških građana. 2005. obnovljena je i...
