We’ve just been to Capo Crudo and while at the beginning the view and the menu promised a good night out, as the night progressed, some things marred the whole experience. We of course had high expectations given the michelin badge and the high prices charged.
After we ordered our wine we were told that it is not available because they are changing the wine list and are waiting for their current wines to finish. We ordered another one and after checking we were also told it was not available. In the end we had to settle for a wine we did not feel like having. The least they could do is to print a short updated wine list.
We ordered our antipasti and mains. The crudo dish was ok but not impressive and over priced (€40). We’ve definitely had better elsewhere for less. They also forgot to get us the cringely commented “russell crowe’s favourite” which was then brought with the mains so we did not feel like having but of course we had to pay for.
The mains were good and the contorni quite interesting, however the meat portions were fairly small for the prices charged (40 euros for a small piece of rib eye and contorni).
But the worse were the desserts. After ordering ice creams and sorbets they came saying everything has melted as the freezer was not working. We ordered some tiramisus, chocolate dome, berry dome and lemon meringue. (As a note they have no lactose free options). All were quite disappointing and tasteless especially the lemon meringue which did not even have a hint of lemon in it.
When it came to coffees we also asked for lactose free milk and they offered decaf instead (?). When we pointed out the difference, they said they don’t stock lactose free options as they go bad. We suggested using fridges and UHT…
In the end it came to €80 a head, for two bottles of wines 3 antipasti shared between 7, a main each and a dessert each.
By the end of the evening we felt we had wasted our money. We are definitely never visiting again and will not recommend...
Read moreI recently dined at this restaurant and my experience left much to be desired. I booked online and left a comment about my lactose intolerance, specifically requesting the fish option. They approved the booking.
I called ahead to confirm their vegan and vegetarian options as they had them listed on the site. They mentioned a vegan risotto and assured me they could accommodate our dietary preferences.
At arrival,we were handed only the drinks menu initially, so we ordered a bottle of water and a cocktail to start.
Before the starter, they brought us a free appetizer, which consisted of sweet and sour sauce in a shot glass with a spring roll (obviously not homemade). The waiter brought two of these and informed me that they contained milk and butter. Then she asked me will you take it? Of course I said no, but she left it on the table. In a case like this better not bring anything at all.
Our first course was a plate of mussels, which were okay at best. Some were empty, while other were closed which should not be served at all.
Despite prior assurances, we were informed that all the fish options, including the vegan risotto, contained butter, leaving me with just one option - pasta. To make matters worse, the pasta with clams had chorizo in it ( I do not eat red meat so I had it removed) Also some of the clams lacked any filling in the pasta, so I did not end up eating it all.
The octopus, at least, was the best thing but nothing special, the mashed potatoes were clearly from a packet, lacking the freshness one would expect in a restaurant like this. The mixed vegetables consisted of two pieces of asparagus and two pieces of broccoli
Overall, the experience was a letdown, with unfulfilled promises and disappointing...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant 5 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. This time, during our visit to Valletta, we decided to go there again. Unfortunately, this time we found it to be a big disappointment. We wanted to start with the tuna carpaccio but they didn't have it, so we opted for the swordfish carpaccio instead. The fish was watery and had a strong fishy taste, making it below average in terms of quality. For the main course, my husband ordered the pasta carbonara which was alright and I had the octopus which was quite tasty.
We also wanted to order wine by the glass, but the restaurant didn't have a menu for it and only offered a limited selection - two types of white wine and one type of red. This was quite a poor selection for a restaurant of this caliber. Moreover, the restaurant didn't have a menu for desserts and our waiter didn't know the options, so she had to go and ask the kitchen and write them down on a piece of paper.
Regarding the service, the waiter serving our table started to clear my cutlery before I had finished my meal. When I pointed this out, instead of apologizing, he laughed and said that he thought I had finished. This was not an appropriate way of addressing his mistake, and the restaurant management should provide better training to their staff. Additionally, no complimentary items were offered, which is usually expected in upscale restaurants. Overall, the experience was mediocre.
However, the view from the...
