When we travel, we prefer to stay at boutique hotels whenever we can, instead of at the big chain hotels. We came across Domus Zamittello when we were searching for a place to stay in area that was more centrally located on the island so that we could easily explore all of the other sites Malta has to offer.
We chose Domus Zamittello because of its beauty, character, charm, history, and location in Valletta. Domus Zamittello was truly a delightful surprise. This elegant boutique hotel is a lovingly restored 17th century palazzo located in heart of Valletta. As it turns out, we could not have picked a better location.
Despite being located in the center of a lively, bustling area full of live music and countless culinary delights, upon entering the hotel, we were transported back in time by the carefully restored architectural grandeur of this once palatial palazzo, that has now been converted into a luxury boutique hotel.
We stayed at Domus Zamittello for 10 days. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, offering a quiet and serene place to unwind after a day filled with exploring all of the beautiful sites the island has to offer. Our room was located on the fourth floor with a view of the open-air theatre. The room was equipped with excellent air conditioning and a large, comfortable bed.
We thoroughly enjoyed spending late nights dining on the 3rd floor open-air terrace, overlooking Republic Street, listening to live music, with views of the gates to Valletta.
After a well-rested night, we enjoyed coming downstairs for the complimentary continental breakfast before setting out to explore the island. The breakfast was fantastic. Everything was fresh and made to order. We especially enjoyed the English Breakfast which consisted of eggs, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, maltese sausage, bacon, and a little pot of baked beans. We also ordered croissants served with a variety of jellies. The croissants were fresh, buttery, and went well with the fresh orange juice.
Above all else, the staff at Domus Zamittello was amazing! Everyone there went out of their way to ensure that we had a delightful time during our stay. From providing us with towels for beach days, reservations for car service, arranging our Covid tests, setting up the tables on the terrace, and more, the staff went above and beyond!
Everyone knew us by name and they took the time to get to know us. We truly appreciated everyone, especially Larken, Nikki, Fabien, Antonello, Sandra, Kole, and many others who assisted us during our stay (I apologize for remembering everyone's name).
We highly recommend Domus Zamittello for anyone visiting Malta. This is the only place we will stay anytime we visit Malta and we definitely plan...
Read moreBooked this holiday for August 2023 for an anniversary.
The hotel is very artsy and has a lot of charm, and it's also very well located — on the main street, yet not deep into it. You can practically enter the capital city of Valletta, and you're already there.
Domus Zamittello is listed as a luxury hotel, but it was actually very affordable. There is no pool, but there is a nice rooftop terrace where you can see the busy street right outside.
The staff have to be the best group of people in the hospitality industry I have ever had dealings with. The cleaning staff always leave a wrapped piece of chocolate on our pillows every time they clean the room, and the staff on the ground floor were just so kind, accommodating, and very friendly.
I had plantar fasciitis when I was visiting, and the staff have gone above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. They provided me a wheelchair, and have also provided me buckets of ice to ease my pain. Our room was originally on a higher floor, and it required a bit of a walk to get to, but the management changed our room to a duplex-type, with a couch that turns into a bed, and an additional bed upstairs — it was also directly outside the lift/elevator, so I didn't need to walk so often.
I want to give special shout outs to these staff members, because they really cemented the chances of us staying at this hotel again.
Moul, general manager - went above and beyond to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
Maria, guest relations manager - always has a smile on her face and provided anything we needed. She also gave us small gifts for our anniversary, which she really didn't have to do.
Ryan, receptionist - very kind, friendly, and helpful.
Samson, receptionist - the Pakistani gentleman who was available most of the time we went downstairs. Very helpful and provided us with a good list of places to eat that were halal.
Saurabh, waiter - his hospitality made eating in the breakfast room very enjoyable. He also brought food up to our floor when I wasn't able to walk.
Fabian, the receptionist - another kind receptionist who I unfortunately haven't had much contact with.
Definitely going back to Domus Zamittello, and a big part of it is because of the...
Read moreThis is a very beautiful hotel, in a former Palazzo and, in a superb location. You are minutes from Upper Barraka gardens (the lift), Triton fountain (bus station) and on Republica, so easy to access all main sites and enjoy ‘passegiata’. Staff are friendly, professional and helpful. All of the staff on reception were great. They recommend places to go, provide helpful info and sort out anything you need.|We had a very large room at first but were not happy with the lack of natural light (overlooking reception), or the very small shower. It was however, quiet ( with a separate entrance through the restaurant). As we were booked for 7 nights, such an internal room would have left me feeling very depressed. Maria was superb and organised us a switch after 3 nights, once other rooms were available. She selected a room that was perfect for us on the 4th floor, with a bath. It totally changed how we felt. It was a lovely room. Comfortable bed, great linen, good nespresso machine. We spent most days out but were always grateful to come back to the coolness and tranquility of the hotel. The inner courtyard and the roof terrace are lovely.|For location and service this is a clear 5 star. My only criticism is that breakfast can be a bit hit and miss ( wrong orders received, orders not understood, terrible avocado and eggs one day, toast barely toasted, overcooked bacon another, staff arriving late and grumpy one morning ). We did not discover they had ‘Greek bread and rolls’ til last day, despite having asked early in stay ‘do you have any different bread?’ Espresso and a glass of Prosecco were always good! Saurab stood out as a great member of staff, always smiling. I haven’t dropped a star for the breakfasts because everything else is superb however, breakfast could be so much better.|The hotel is perfect if you want to visit the sites and learn about the history and culture of Malta, rather than have a beach holiday. As it got hotter, we started to realise that sometimes you need a hotel with a pool - but we hadn’t gone for that kind of holiday!|Best trip was the small boat to the three cities. we also loved Mdina and Rabat. Best discovery nearby, was Farina (2 mins from hotel) where Gennaro’s nephew serves...
