Its a walmart. I stayed in a apartment for a week in cancun near this walmart.
My Canadian TD Visa debit card worked here every time.
I came here soon after arriving to stock up on food and drinks. I did try going to a Telcel phone sim store, but the lady was on lunch, i planned to return. But as soon as i walked in this walmart, a lady a a phone desk inside the entrance yelled "buy sim cards here!" so i went there for a SIM card for my phone.
I went shopping for food: -The Bread department is different then any i have seen before. No bread, or cookies, or pastry is in packages, its all out in the open. And you get a round tray and pincers from the table and get all the bread or treats you want on to your tray, then take that to the lady at the bread counter and she will weigh it all up and bag it and print a sale tag to pay for it. To me its odd to see all the bread unpackaged, but it was fun too. -I wanted to get some ice cream here, but every single ice cream container seemed like it was full of liquid, not frozen, even though it was in a freezer. So i skipped on ice cream and went to dairy queen right across the road any time i wanted ice cream. -Lots of yogurt, normal brands.(yogurt is good to prevent traveler sickness). -Coca cola you can buy in can, or case of can, and every size bottle from tiny to 3L individually, or in a case of bottles. -Chips, they have lays and ruffles and other brands -Produce they have some produce i am used to, potatos, lettuce and salad kits, pears and apples (altho not big selection), and other things -Milk was a tough one for me to find. They do not keep milk in refrigerators. They are in large "juice box" type cartons, on the shelf not cold. I bought one but never drank or opened it. -Cereal was good selection -Good meat department too. -They sell reusable bags
This Mcdonalds also has a KFC, subway, Mcdonalds, a mexican fast food restaurant, a dollar store, and some tour agency shops, all of these are in the building but outside the walmart shopping area.
Staff was friendly and understood me even though i dont...
Read moreWent to Walmart to find a case for my GoPro. The selection was very limited as well as miss organized with items everywhere. The employees were VERY RUDE. One of them I said something to immediately said no English I responded saying no problem an used my translator where he waved his little finger an bobbed his head an said no an kept walking... when I told him to tell me his name he said Miguel.. clear as day he understood me... the lack of respect is unreal. I’m sorry you don’t like your job but get over yourself... No one was in the electronics department. Every time you stopped an employee they said they were busy, didn’t work in that department or would get someone to help an just continued doing what ever they were doing. No one there speaks English or wants to do their job an help you. To the point I was getting so frustrated I was filling up shopping carts with items and leaving it creating them work!!!! I went to customer service where not long after there was 3 other groups of people there with the same horrible customer service issues an no one in the electronics section issues.. after getting a manager who spoke English I made sure to go threw all of my issues. They have a Limited selection on almost everything and no one knows where anything is. I also couldn’t find a travel size container so I ended up getting a urine sample container to put my body wash in. The prices are also extremely high sunscreen being over $10 my sunscreen also ending up ringing the wrong price at 219mxn. Probably hoping you don’t notice! They also don’t have bags an didn’t even ask if I wanted to buy one till after. I’m not going to recharge my card a dollar...
Read moreIt's a typical Mexican W-mart. * Why two stars? * They are now selling a noticeabley bigger selection of souvenirs and tours - that is certainly affecting local vendors pockets. I find the fact some reviewers recommend W-Mart to purchase souvenirs and tours rather horrible and totally stupid. Give your head a shake! and although they may claim to love Mexico, they are certainly not helping to keep it authentic and are contributing to putting hard working local vendors in to financial hardships. I understand they have good intentions, trying to save other tourists $1 or two bucks on a T-shirt - but maybe a good haggler will get that same shirt $1 cheaper than WMart from a street vendor. I am just saying that this is maybe not the right venue for the " cheaper so who cares buy it here " type of attitude. I look forward to the street vendors and the whole haggling and socializing part - that is part of the Mexico experience . Shame on the tourists coming home from Mexico and telling your friends " I bought this Cancun t-shirt for you at WMart in Mexico. " Really ? Are you serious ? You get an E- for effort on that DUMBASS purchase. Shame on you ... I.M.O. leave Mexico as real and authentic as possible for future generations. Sorry if I ranted, please give it some thought for the long term and the countless families that rely on tourism as there only source of income. WMart will do just fine with or without your...
