SHAME of CDMX, WORST dining experience of LIFE TIME. I can say over 90% of Mexican restaurants I visited in CDMX provide good foods and at least you pay for what you eat, but this place is totally the CONTRARY. On the pathway besides this dining area, some staff of these food providers would wave at you especially when they saw you are foreigner, and show you their menu and start to introduce their foods. But all the prices on their menu are FAKE, they would charge you WAY MORE without any explanation afterwards. If you asked the waiter to give you the menu to confirm the price, he would pretend he knows nothing and insist you to pay.
If you order a chico size of drink, say a cup of agua de guayaba, but they would end up giving you the biggest cup in order to charge you more(it is "agua"de guayaba, not "jugo"de guayaba, the more water they add, the more they earn).
The more ridiculous was, while I was still eating my food at around 13:30, a waiter suddenly approached and asked me to pay the bill. I had never encountered this clown shxt anywhere. As I checked on Google map beforehand they said their operation time is from 9am-6pm. What's more absurd was the waiter dared to ask me for pincxx PROPINA after charging me more for the food.
The owners of different food providers in this area seem to know each other, and they way of doing business is the same: UNSCRUPULOUS. If you are wealthy enough to experience some BAD service, you MUST visit this place.
P.S. beware of restaurants in CDMX that have staff to wave you in at the entrance, usually a good restaurant with reputation does not...
Read moreToday I ate there and I was extremely disappointed. I had previously gone to one of those stalls run by a couple of ladies and everything was great. Cheap, tasty, and good service.
Today I made a huge mistake by going to the first stall on the row called "Toñita". It is run by two guys and they assured me that it was the "same" as other places. This was a lie.
Here is everything that went wrong:
While the menu is similar to other stalls, a lot of the stuff is not available, and the flavor is way worse. The service is extremely slow and even for simple things like getting the check they would take a very long time. The prices in the menu do not match with what you actually get changed. I only ordered 1 alambre, 1 huarache and 2 drinks and they changed me 385 pesos, insane.
This place is a huge ripoff and I would never recommend anyone to go there. Look out for the "Toñita" sign.
On the other hand, I would recommend going to the stall right next to them that had a grashopper sign and is run by two ladies. I ordered the same thing from them a different day, they changed me 100 pesos less and the service was much better.
I have uploaded some pics of the horrible "Toñita" stall so that you can clearly see where and who the...
Read moreWith no exaggeration, one of the worst meals of my life. After an exhausting morning at the Anthropology Museum, I was hungry enough to settle for a second-rate meal, but ended up with a third-rate one. I ordered two huaraches, whose tough dough was indistinguishable from the styrofoam plate below. I struggled through the steak huarache and its sub-par meat, but simply could not palate the chicken one served, astoundingly, with poorly-cooked onions -- a feat I formerly thought impossible. If for nothing else, I thank this establishment for truly making me appreciate the rest of the amazing food I encountered throughout my stay in the country, most of which came at a far lower price than this affront to both Mexico and to cooking.
Also nearly certain that this meal was what finally ended my week's-long luck of avoiding foodborne illness, so, en fin, si fuera la opción o pasar hambre el resto del día o comer de nuevo uno de los huaraches eses de aquí, preferiría desmayar pasando...
