Pros: They open and close when they say they will The equipment is kept relatively clean Access to other sportsworlds, spa, sauna etc.
Cons:
*Obscenely expensive ($170US/3300 pesos a month) for what you get, this gym should cost maybe $50 a month. *The air conditioning has been not functioning well here for nearly a year and they have done little to fix it. *The staff and the managers are more concerned with protecting the staff and their own jobs rather then doing a good job. *The trainers are unbelievably unprofessional, they don't show up when they say they will, when they train you they hardly pay attention, and when you want your money back they refuse to do so despite the fact its impossible to arrange a session with them. *Filthy locker rooms where they have problems with people peeing in the sauna (seriously), and constant problems of theft including one time a jacket of mine was stolen. When you report stolen items they could care less. *The training area is quite small and cramped, GYM 24 down the street has more machines and space for $25US a month. *They frequently have problems with theft (rumor has it that it’s the staff that’s steals wouldn’t surprise me) *The gym is super busy nearly 24/7 its almost impossible to workout there between 5-9pm. *The guests that come are also rather rude and do not put the weights away, leave sweat everywhere, jump into your sets without asking *They now close at 2pm on Sunday instead of 5pm.
Summary: Overall I'd recommend avoiding this place. Its true this place is rated 4.1 stars but the majority of those reviews were before this place went spectacularly downhill. I'd recommend checking SmartFit, QI Welness, Gym24 for a budget option and if you MUST choose sportsworld I highly recommen choosing the Roma location that is only about 500m from this one, but in my opinion all sportsworld as a brand is super priced. Trust me do not join this gym unless you want to pay $3300 pesos a month for a cramped, hot gym with little equipment and a...
Read moreUpdate 2024: I've been going for the past couple of months and sadly it doesn't get better inside, I am paying about $70 USD for a restricted schedule ( ie between 10AM and 2PM), didn't pay an inscription fee and frankly it still feels subpar, let me tell you why :
The Clientele : No easy way to say this but it is full of gentlemen of a certain disposition, now whatever gets your rocks off is none of my business, love is love yada, yada, but do you have to make the squat rack or the bench press in a crowded gym "your" mating ground ? So yeah, be ready to constantly be asking scantly clothed dudes with an attitude if you can maybe use the bench press or squat rack and be ready to be told off while they look at their phones.
Did I mention its crowded ? You will get sick and develop a rash, I know its a gym, but some patrons are also super sweaty and even though towels are begrudgingly provided nobody reracks or cleans the equipment.
Speaking of the equipment, half of it is broken or is about to break, some of it is not even plugged in, there's no AC and even the Music doesn't work, it's either too loud or is interrupted with silence in the middle of a song just to piss you off.
I could go on but I hope you get a "feel" for what your are getting into, it is about the same quality (or lack of quality as Centro Qi) which is also nearby.
My original "review" which still stands, the receptionists will try to upsell you and price gouge you, look at the site.
Couldn't make it past the reception, expensive for what you get, about $120 USD/mo plus another $120 USD for membership, but they seem to want to haggle and upsell you, I mentioned the site had a membership special of $30 USD and they ignored it an mentioned they would charge me more, asked if I could have a day pass and they said they didn't even though I was offered one last time I inquired, tons...
Read moreI strongly urge anyone reading this to avoid getting involved with this gym. By New York City standards, it would be a nice gym; but for less than half the price. There are other, better, less crowded, and more affordable options with honest management.
As soon as you arrive and begin asking about membership prices, you’re going to get the same feeling I did; that you are dealing with crooked, used car salesmen type of people. Wait until you see the contract, all in Spanish, that you must sign! I dealt with a guy named Axel Diaz (probably a fake name). While Axel initially appears to be a nice, honest guy, he is acutally a despicable swindler. Based upon the many other awful reviews (you should read them all), I had serious reservations about signing up. After asking about those unflattering reviews, he assured me I could trust him. Nevertheless, once the initial membership had expired, the price we had agreed to was suddenly about double. The woman at the desk was no help and insisted that was the price I must pay to maintain my membership. When I reached out to Axel via text, he ignored me, though I could see that my messages had been both received and read.
This place seems to me to be basically a scam to steal from foreigners either by charging your cards forever or to get the initial membership fees. Do yourself a favor. Pick a better gym with more honest employees and management. If you choose to sign up anyway, you’re likely going to regret not listening to both me and...
