They are selling plastic bottles of water and not just water, which consequently affects our environment.
Carrying our bottle is essential, so when the water runs out you can fill the bottle with the water of a siphon and thus avoid the consumption of plastic. Nowdays there is a high percentage of people who do not recycle and even then, if it is recycled not all the recycled plastic is sold or reused. There is thus a high risk that they will continue to throw it into the sea destroying our environment.
Therefore I suggest a possible solution to avoid the daily use of plastic.
If the store that is selling plastic is no part of the gym administration, I suggest to sale the liter of water, but not the plastic. That can happen, having a water siphon to sale only the liter of water. So people have to bring their own bottle to buy the liter of water.
If the store belongs to the owners of the gym, then they could charge a few extra pesos and provide siphons in the gym so everyone refills their bottle.
If we do not act in favor of the protection of our environment, we are accomplices of the destruction.
Read moreThis is an excellent gym with great equipment and facilities, and I have very fond memories of it, as I’ve been training in various gyms of this franchise for around 10 years. However, like many others have mentioned, the customer service at the reception has consistently been poor over the years. It often feels like the staff are doing you a favor. The music, particularly in the mornings, is terrible to the point that you need to bring your own headphones and playlist. The receptionists, who seem to be in charge of the music, appear to have no options other than playing the same '80s tracks or Boris Brejcha’s set on repeat day after day. In comparison, World Gym has an outstanding electronic music selection. The owners need to take music more seriously—it’s a vital part of the experience and can’t be left to people with no musical appreciation to handle the playlist.
That being said, this gym is extraordinary for hardcore training. However, if you’re a civilized person who expects respectful behavior, this might not be the place for you. The environment often feels toxic, with many people on hormones or using strong pre-workouts. It’s not uncommon to see individuals hoarding weights or occupying 4-5 machines for their supersets. I've even witnessed women arguing because someone, clearly on hormones, was trying to bully another into giving up her machine mid-set. Then there’s the guy blocking the dumbbell area, making it impossible for others to pass.
The trainers, with few exceptions, are equally unprofessional and rude. Despite these issues, this gym remains one of my favorites, but it’s important to highlight these aspects because the competition is growing every day. Frankly, World Gym is raising the bar significantly. Right now, the only thing keeping me loyal to this gym is the sauna, which is a real privilege and a gift.
The owners have done a fantastic job bringing this fitness culture to Playa del Carmen, and they’re not entirely to blame for these issues. However, they must pay closer attention to the quality of certain aspects to stay ahead in the ever-growing...
Read moreGoing public with an experience that makes you feel weak, helpless and small is never easy but I hope that sharing what happened to me at this gym will help other people be safe and encourage the whole gym community to stand up for all members.
Never in my life have I felt as helpless and powerless to stop abuse as in this gym. I have never felt worse or weaker as in this gym. I have never felt the gender imbalance of physical power more than in this gym. As a woman, living in 2021, I have never imagined that what happened to me was even possible.
I was targeted by another gym member for a gym bench, of which there were at least 2-3 free ones available. Despite telling him that I needed it for a later set but he is free to use it for 5 minutes or he can use another free bench, he proceeded to harass me and then forcibly take the bench from me, throwing all my belongings from it. Not a single member of the staff stood up for me to help, even though several were on the floor and even after I asked for their help. Their solution was to ask me to use another bench. This was targeted, abusive, bullying and degrading behaviour by a man who was significantly bigger than me and there was no protection offered by the establishment or by the staff present, including those on the gym floor itself. Putting this individual member’s behaviour to one side, the staff and establishment really need to do better to protect all members from abusive behaviour of other customers, especially when there is an obvious imbalance of power. Letting such abuse occur without intervention and offering light touch solutions gives permission for such abuse to continue - I am attempting to cancel my membership, while the man suffers no repercussions.
The experience has left me feeling small, powerless, helpless and weak. I go to the gym almost every day, even when I travel and never in my life have I had an experience like this and never in my life have I experienced an establishment that allowed such abusive and degrading behaviour to occur, let alone go without any...
