Be Playa — Hotel in Playa del Carmen

I don’t think I have ever left a 1 star review before but wow, this place earned it. I want to preface this review with the fact that I have stayed in PDC at least 8 times in the last 6 years and have never had to move hotels before. ||The initial greeting and check in process was good, no issues there, but after that it went downhill. |I booked a junior suite room because the pictures online looked great, and definitely gave a couples vibe with a double shower and large jacuzzi tub. |Once we got into our room, we noticed it was not as nice as the pictures which wasn’t a big deal honestly. But, the tub was pretty stained with hard water build up, and the stopper didn’t really work very well. It either leaked or wouldn’t come undone once you got it to stop leaking. Then when we went to use the double shower, the drain didn’t work properly and caused water to go everywhere outside of the shower. They did not provide a towel to go on the floor outside of the shower either, and instead had a rug near the bathtub that looked worn/dirty. |They had not refilled the shampoo/conditioner/body wash before we got there, there was not a soap tray for the hand soap bar, there is no mini fridge, we noticed ants and other bugs crawling on the ground, etc, lots of little things that continued to add up. |We had rented bikes which is super common for the area, and they at first seemed like they didn’t have parking for them which I found odd. Someone finally said we could park them downstairs in the garage and they made us carry them down the stairs instead of using the elevator?? It was so weird and honestly super difficult to navigate the bikes down a narrow 180 degree style staircase. I actually ended up cutting my leg on the bike as I brought it down. |After we got back to our room for the night, we were shocked at how LOUD it was! I had read reviews about noise so I had brought ear plugs but wow. It was still so noisy! Between the rooftop and the bar next door, it was practically unbearable. |We ended up checking out early and having to pay for another hotel which was another unexpected expense, since we couldn’t get a refund. We weren’t even asked why we were checking out early/if there was a problem.||I’m not sure who would be a good candidate for this hotel, maybe some really young adults that plan on partying all night and sleeping all day and don’t care much about...

The manager here is absolutely disgusting. I booked one night through booking fory wedding and then asked to extend for another night, explaining it would be the night before the wedding for myself only. They said it would be no problem but they didn't book the room. I tried to show them where they had confirmed the room on booking but the manager was EXTREMELY rude, telling me that the "Contact the Property" option on booking isn't them (it is) and that they didn't have my booking. Incredibly poor service when somebody has specifically mentioned that this will be their wedding. This guy was very quick to get angry and made comments which were borderline racist. He should not be in managers role when suffering from small man syndrome.||Next the heavy wardrobe collapsed on me whilst I was brushing my teeth at the sink unit in front. Causing a significant blow to my head. ||Then as if this wasn't enough. We arrived on the night of the wedding with the key we received earlier and it didn't work. One hour later and nobody had attended reception or answered the phone. We had to take a taxi to another hotel. I contacted booking during this hour but they couldn't make contact either. ||When we went for our things the next day I was told by the reception that they had let the manager know about the contact from booking, and he had said that he wasn't going to refund. Obviously booking are refunding my money though given the we didnt receive the paid service. AVOID...

This is scam! I booked this hotel via a third party with a total price finalized. The hotel charged me $74 extra for nothing. I didn't break anything or used their amenities, which is by the way outdated and very mediocre. They blamed a 3rd party website for incorrect pricing, but at the check-in they said nothing about it. Only at check-out they have decided they need to make some pocket money for themselves. If I knew they were going to charge me more I would have chosen a better hotel. I prefer to understand what I pay for and not get surprised at hidden fees after my stay. The first day the hotel posted a $350 deposit on my credit card out of the blue. Then they charged me extra outside what have been paid for already. Anyway the room is small, there is no jacuzzi there as advertised on the photo, there is not privacy in the bathroom at all, the windows don't work, the entrance door doesn't work properly. It's ok for a $60 per night, but not acceptable for $90 per night as it ended up to be. It is not a 4 star hotel. It is a motel type dwelling. Parking is a hustle, you gotta run around the town to get coins, that's all they accept. On the website they advertise parking as free. I don't need such problems while I am at vacation. I would prefer hotels to be upfront and honest about pricing, conditions, parking and amenities. Big disappointment! I do not...
