Seems like it’s the only operator you can use right now to go to Cozumel. We went for a day (left PDC 8am and left Cozumel at 9pm).
We bought tickets at the respective, official booth. PDC-Cozumel 236 mxn, Cozumel-PDC was cheaper at 200 mxn. Even though on both tickets the price states “250mxn”. Who knows what they’re doing there ... The ride is fine, both times we left about 10 minutes “late” but the ride won’t take longer than 40-50 minutes.
In times of COVID, make sure you sit outside and not inside. More because on the second floor they have a live music band playing in front of the passengers (without face mask), which to me does not seem like the best idea when trying to protect passengers (not taking into account here of course the personal dilemma of musicians during this pandemic).
On the way back we had a friendly staff passing various times to remind people to put their face masks on. Unfortunately, there is still some people who simply don’t oblige and endanger the people around them. In our case it was a group of apparently drunk Argentinians arguing “in Argentina, the situation is worse” - okay ....
On the way to Cozumel unfortunately they only passed by once. @Ultramar: please do this more frequently and in case of repeated neglectance of the rules, please remove these passengers and hand them over to the authorities.
Overall 3 stars because the ride itself was fine but throughout the entire ride we were concerned with our health and would’ve wished for more effort by Ultramar because in the end, if the government switches to “rojo” again, tourism will...
Read moreThe ferry itself and the journey were great and although the indoor seating was painfully cold from the a/c, moving to the covered outdoor seating fixed that issue.
However, my three stars is down to my experience buying the ticket. I headed to the ticket office and as I was heading towards the queue I was stopped by one of the multiple Ultramar sales reps (wearing full uniform) holding handheld ticket machines. The lady sold me a return ticket to Cozumel and asked me for 600 mxn. Having looked at pricing on the website the night before I thought it seemed a little steep but gave the money and walked away. Thankfully I was stopped moments later by someone selling tours on the island. I looked down at my ticket to see that it actually said 500mxn on it. I confronted the lady that sold me the ticket, who proceeded to tell me some lie about tax to which I responded that I was going to check the website. She irritatedly rolled her eyes and reached in her money pouch and gave me back the extra hundred. Just beware of the price on the ticket and make sure you haven’t been charged anything in addition. Also the tickets from the handheld devices are supper thin receipts so I would advise you to head to the counter anyway so you get actual card tickets which are less likely to rip or fade throughout the day - particularly if you buy a...
Read moreBooked two First Class round trip tickets from PDC to Cozumel. I booked online and it didn’t quite go so well. I definitely was charged but the QR code email was never sent. I contacted customer support on WhatsApp and they explained that they see the payment and that they acknowledge that no tickets were sent and that I should go to Ultramar ferry office for assistance.
I got there an hour early b/c it’s high tourist season and so thankful I did! Looks like it was a system wide issue and after I got there everyone was queuing up behind me for assistance.
Next time I’ll only buy in person and get the local rate. I definitely was overpaying. The website said only seats available were first class but when I got on the boat, regular class was practically empty and first class was full! So…I kind of think something is up!?
The boat was very nice! Much nicer than a different ferry I traveled on in the past. There was an actual food counter l. And first class was no joke! The seats were very comfortable and I liked that you could board first. But for such a short ride I’ll stick to a regular seat. There was live music on both ferries on the back of the boat outside. The cabin is well insulated b/c you could barely hear the band that was just feet away behind a...
