First, I never leave reviews like this. But this experience was crazy enough that I think it’s warranted. The tour was supposed to meet at 8:45 and leave at 9:00. Due to circumstances entirely outside of our control my group was a little bit late which resulted in the boat leaving at 9:07 instead. Less than 10 minutes behind schedule. All of the other guests on the tour didn’t seem to mind, but the speed boat company representatives were pretty rude about the schedule setback. I fully understand the need to keep a tight schedule, and I even told them they could leave without us if the slight delay was a problem. They waited for all of us but were definitely not nice about it.
And then: the ride itself. What an experience. The boat driver basically pushed the throttle all of the way forward and never let up. He spent 75% of his time while driving the boat looking down at his phone, rather than out at where we were going, the wave/channel conditions, other boats (of which there were a lot), etc. He just kept looking down at his phone. Several times he didn’t have ANY hands on the wheel at all. I’ve attached a picture to this review; it was wild. When he was looking up, he was looking over at other boat drivers who were all clearly egging each other on and racing each other.
The Blue Cave was packed with other boat tours and the swimming area near that Blue Cave was a small cove filled with 26 other speed boats. Definitely not the safest place for swimming but I know that how it often is on this type of tour. Our boat driver did not tell the people who got off the boat to swim how much time they had, which didn’t seem great. Thankfully everyone made it back on.
On the way back from the Blue Cave we were going so fast that a Montenegrin military boat flagged us down and told us to slow down. Our boat driver said he didn’t have to listen to them, but he did for a minute -we slowed down while we were close to the military boat and then went back to the crazy fast speeds as soon as we were past them. A lady in the front also got whacked in the head with a buoy and my friend got hit in the neck with a rope due to stuff not being properly secured to the side of the boat.
In short, we were really happy that we made it back to Kotor. I don’t think I’d recommend this one if you care about boat safety. I have been on a lot of boats and boat tours in my life and this was truly crazy. Also, the ride was rough enough that my group has spent the rest of the day recovering. There are nice places to swim in the Kotor area, but this tour doesn’t really take you to any of them. The submarine tunnel was cool but we were there for less than two minutes.
*the owner of the business has commented to say that we asked for a refund. That was one of what I believe are several lies in his response, but that one I can deny definitely. We did not ask for a refund, but I will be asking for one now based on how bad this experience was for my group. Truly cannot recommend this experience any less. Vasilije, you’ll be hearing from Airbnb support on our behalf, and we would...
