café smit & voogt — Restaurant in Amsterdam

We actually love this place, a true neighborhood gem in the heart of Plantage. The service is great and the staff is super warm and friendly . Also, the food is not bad at all!! Now, what we did NOT like at all (last time we were there) was the shrimp bisque my husband ordered, (which was listed under main courses (hoofgerechten), for €19.50 which, as the second most expensive item in the menu, we expected it to be a hearty meal, turned out to be a tiny, simple bowl of watery soup…..accompanied by two pieces of bread and the tiniest salad. I mean….. 20 friggin euros for that????? Very, veeeeeeery disappointed about that.

Don’t even want to give this 1 star! Shocking service! Ordered a coffee and food. Got the coffee. Waited an hour for food. Lots of people got their food before me and I was still waiting. Asked a lady what was going on, only to be told they didn’t place the order in the kitchen. They didn’t apologise. Disgraceful service. Wasted an hour of my day sitting around waiting for food that I didn’t get because the waitress couldn’t do her job properly....

Really lovely stop for brunch on a sunny Sunday morning. Spoke really good English and the service was very good. The food was traditional but x10. Came here with kids and one of the children wanted a tostie but with bacon and the waitress made very helpful suggestions to give him exactly what he wanted.
