The Movies — Attraction in Amsterdam

Really sad and disappointed to see they've changed the look and interior of the place. They have quite literally destroyed a piece of history and gave it a horrible new ''modern twist'' when there was absolutely nothing wrong with the old Art Deco look. It was stunning and you really felt like you were traveling back in time and the atmosphere was very cozy and romantic.

Such a shame and it goes to show how whoever was in charge of this did not care about preserving history, especially of such a iconic and historic place.

Update/response: With all due respect guys did not do your utmost best to keep and preserve everything exactly as is, because if so i wouldn't have written this review. I've been going to The Movies for years and I'm aware that renovation (especially of such historic places) is necessary. But the new look is completely different from the old look. It's a completely different theatre now, everything from the furniture to the interior etc has changed. The bar looks completely different, there's absolutely no comparison....

UPDATE: I am so sad to see that they've removed all the glorious original deco features that made the cinema a relic of the 1920s/30s style...! Why did they do this change? Now it just looks like a modern cinema trying to look old... the kind of style I would expect on a cruise ship for example. I am sorry but I think it is a real shame to remove such unique history.

Original review FROM 2019: My favourite cinema in Amsterdam. Gloriously well preserved original Art Deco style interiors yet with modern high quality screens with decent sound and comfortable seats.

The first cinema in Amsterdam built in 1912 in and resides in a 17th century building. This art deco styled cinema has usually one or 2 mainstream movies with a larger focus on European made movies.

There is a bar, restaurant and friendly staff that gladly help you with any questions. The cinema rooms can occupy a limited amount of people and it contains comfortable, cosy chairs and beautiful walls. It is quite the experience!
