We are visiting from Wellington for a week, and today I was standing on the bridge overlooking the river and taking a wide angle photo while a Gondola boat went underneath me. An employee of the Boatshed Hire place (bearded man with tattoos on his legs) who I didn't even notice was there yelled up to me asking if he was in the photo, I replied "yea, but that's ok" thinking he was worried he was in the way. He then said not to put any photos on the internet with his face in them, and I said ok. It would have been fine if that was the end of it. However, he then proceeded to lecture me that it is an invasion of privacy to take photos with other people in them and quizzing me whether I think I should ask before taking photos with other people in them and continuing to tell me I was invading peoples privacy. Now, there are two things wrong here - this person should not be working in the tourism industry in the heart of the central city where many people take photos of the river if he is worried about being seen, and if he does then he should be trained not to be rude and abuse tourists (when the tourism industry is screaming out for people to come and spend money during the pandemic). Secondly the law states that there is no expectation of privacy in a public place and you may be in photos or video. (He would obviously be on countless CCTV images in that part of the city). He didn't have much to say when I pointed that second part out. As you'll see, I've uploaded the photo despite his request, due to the fact he was rude about it - to show that it is a general photo of the river that he happened to be in (pulling in the paddle boats while wearing a cap so you can't even see his face). And there is no other reason (legal or otherwise) why I am not allowed to...
Read moreThe Antigua Boat Sheds are probably the first place I ever had a coffee in Christchurch. You can just relax and take in the magical area or hire a kayak to explore the river. Across the river, there’s now another special spot to sit and enjoy the river - a giant mōkihi (raft) sculpture. With the rebuild, there’s been a lot of work done with Māori to restore the river itself - 400 tonnes of shingle were removed and cleaned. There are more eels, more fish and it’s a lovely place where you can escape all the glass and be in nature. Riwai Grace - Arts &...
Read moreWorst customer service at a Christchurch cafe I have ever dealt with! We booked a table for 10am on a Saturday. We turned up and there had been a mistake on their end as they couldn’t find our booking. I showed them the email proof of booking. They said there were no tables available and we would have to wait outside until a table became available. We waited for 15 minutes and in that time we had seen a table come available and given to someone else. There was no apology or care in the slightest. Will...
