A very scenic venue for cricket, located amidst the greenery of Hagley Park. This is more of a cricket ground than a stadium, having a nice grass embankment around the playing area. The ground is very picturesque and resembles the grounds in England. On match days, this usually quiet ground is bustling with activity as young children play their own cricket games behind the embankment and their parents watching the game at the center. One can go for a walk in the calm setting around the Oval, on non-match days, when there would hardly be anyone around. It is easily accessible from different parts of the city.
Had been to the final ODI vs England earlier this year, and though the ground was packed, the experience was wonderful. Security did not allow us to carry water from outside and we had to empty our bottles, but there were taps inside the ground from where we could fill water. With a regular ticket, one could watch the game from anywhere on the grass embankment, except from the stand near the pavilion. There were also mobile restrooms stationed in the outer periphery of the Oval and a lot of restaurants had their mobile stalls set up. People brought their camping chairs and sat along the boundary fence. The viewing experience was great as we could get a clear view of the players. There was a separate area designated for families where consumption of beer was not permitted. The crowd was well-behaved, except for a couple of idiots who tried to run into the playing area during the game. In summary, the Hagley Oval is a must-visit for every cricket fan in...
Read moreVery poor organisation. Couldn't even get in the gate for whole hour because they are checking bags. Knew that it was a sell-out but can't / don't cater for the large number of people. Too slow. Continuely serve beer to young teens inside, who are written off by lunch time. There behaviour was bad, drunken. Many round right side of north screen. Security Staff useless and didn't control crowd. Guys standing up and sculling container of beer in front of their mates chanting. Standing up poking a hot dog down their throat like some porno movie. Teens rolling round on the ground wrestling. Spoils it for many people nearby. Also International Game with only one screen. Poor. Bairstow and Hales - didn't actually know what they achieved. Couldn't see the one screen they had. Intercom system - couldn't hear that. International Game - expect a lot more in our nice small intimate Oval. Wouldn't think it would be too hard to organise. Besides - i came back from Little Kaiteri early to go to game. Big mistake Sorry to gripe. But you need to know. Regards Maureen Gray 25A Augusta...
