This was our last stop before flying home, so we chose to stay fairly close to the city, although the opposite side from the airport. We were expecting a nice beachside holiday park, with decent facilities, as we had become used to at all the other places we'd stayed throughout our 3 week trip. How disappointed we were, and such a let down at the end of our trip.
Positives first: Staff member on reception was friendly and very helpful even to the difficult customers before me in the queue. Depending on which plot you get, the views can be really nice. Location is really good, close to the beach, and area with shops and restaurants etc.
Negatives: Poorly signposted, down a little lane, and round a corner which became a bottleneck of vehicles trying to check in, and others trying to get out. The whole park is run down, and clearly hasn't had any money spent on maintenance or rejuvenation. The toilet and shower facilities are dirty, broken, and generally unpleasant. -Two of the four kitchen sinks are missing plugs, which sounds petty, but shows how little the place is cared about. The gas burners in the kitchen are disgustingly dirty and rusted through. The instant hot water boiler has brown scum in. Gaping holes in the walkway (may be outside the park grounds) Electricity points don't look safe Toilet dump station is a toilet in the bushes, just next to one of the cabins One of the most tightly packed parks we stayed at, don't expect spacious. No wifi that we were aware of.
It's a shame, as the location is really good, and it has the potential to be a really nice park. Clearly the owners are simply not interested in reinvesting any money...
Read moreWe were seriously shocked by how dilapidated this holiday park is. In fact, it is not even worthy the term holiday park because every holiday park in NZ that we stayed in was much better. We had booked a 72NZD kitchen cabin. When we approached the cabin we already got seriously worried. Paint coming off the outside, beer bottle caps on the stairs, a completely run-down door, the cabin being right next to the dump station, being an old toilet pot. The inside was not much better. A dirty table from the 60s, the fridge was not clean, cobwebs in the corners, a nasty smell...it all got me to go directly back to reception. When I said that the cabin was seriously bad the employee looked at me like he knew exactly what I was talking about. He instantly handed us the key to another cabin and apologized and said he was not the owner. This guy saved us fod that night because the more modern studio we got "upgraded" to was a lot better. Still there was a lot of dirt on the table fan and the kitchen cabinets, but hey, it was a huge difference with the other one. This holiday park seriously needs its owners to question themselves. The 2 old cabins should absolutely be demolished, all the pot holes should be filled up, the communal kitchen and bathroom area should be drastically cleaned or rebuilt. We are really not that fussy and for 72NZD we don't expect a 5 star hotel, but this just felt like a total rip-off. Thanks to your employee for handling our complaint in a serious manner, otherwise we would have...
Read moreI recon it is a very amazing place to go for a summer holiday, and I have camped there every summer for pretty well 18 years and it's always been a very neat Hotspot for holiday makers and tourists from most of Europe it's practically in au urban location right in the heart of North Shore City with all the hustle and bustle of bars shops cafes and restaurants in fancy living and I actually know the area quite well, just like I know Manukau Central quite well, but it's great to know that it's right by the beach where I can have plenty of amazing swims, with a scenic view across to Rangitoto Island, the campground has very amazing facilities such as Men's and women's bathrooms and showers and also kitchen facilities with a very neat BBQ area, but it doesn't have a TV lounge and I've only used the tent sites because it's the cheapest option, but it also has cabins, campervan/motor home/RV sites along with caravan sites as I know 6 years ago how they moved the office to other side of the driveway and very conveniently I can take a walk out through the back gate up along the shoreline coast to Milford Beach and have a few good swims up there, but Takapuna Beach Holiday Park has been by far my go to Hotspot for a summer holiday and it's 18 years ago since my uncle heard about that place and it's always been my uncle who's always given me a holiday there, as I know I've been to more rural and remote campgrounds which have always...
