Cafe Botannix Takapuna — Restaurant in Devonport-Takapuna

A very disappointing breakfast. I dont usually complain but this was not up to par. We paid $61 for a drink each and two eggs benedict on saturday 11th march. The coffee machine wasn't working and didn't tell us until after we had already paid and sat down while we could hear them telling other guests that it wasn't working. They did however, refund the coffee. The Eggs benes were probably the worst we had ever had. I got a salmon one and the salmon looked like it had been in the fridge for far too long, it was not fresh at all. It also didn't state that it would be raw salmon either. There was mushy brown stuff on the salmon so I didn't eat any of it and moved it to the side. The flavor of the mint sauce was far too over powering and ruined the whole dish. The poached eggs may as well have been hard boiled as they were not runny at all and my husband's toast was burnt. It's very displeasing to be paying this amount for breakfast that doesn't have a quality that matchs up with the price they sell it for. I was staying with my friend, who lives just a few minutes walk from this café, whilst I was over from Sydney for a week at the end of April 2025. This is my friend's go-to place for her coffee most mornings so we decided to have breakfast here a couple of days. I had the Corn Fritters with bacon one day and my friend had the Green Bowl. The next day my friend had the Corn Fritters without bacon and I had the French Toast. Everything was super delicious but my favourite was the corn fritters which were so light and scrumptious! Food was not good - I ordered the Big Breakfast which was around $27 and my child ordered the Mini Big Breakfast which was around $9-$12 I believe. The only difference between our meals was mine had a dollop of mushrooms and some vine tomatoes, everything else was the same - paying so much extra for a few mushrooms and a couple of tomatoes is ridiculous. The rosti tasted like fish and seemed like it had been fried in old oil. The bread was so tough it was inedible and the coffee was watery.
