Copenhagen Cones — Restaurant in North Island

I have been coming here for icecream and fresh waffles since I was a little girl and I have continued my tradition of walks around Mount Maunganui followed by a waffle cone, with my own two children. Unfortunately after today I will not be entering the store again or sending either of my girls in after the rudeness of the woman with the coloured hair.

My 2 daughters and their friends went into the shop to order icecream for all 6 of us (4 kids & 2 mums) as us mums did not have masks on us. (we happily queued outside with 50 or so other families not wearing masks).

All our 4 children are of the same age.

The lady with coloured hair asked my daughter her age, smirked, pffft and rolled her eyes when my daughter responded making her feel nervous and uncomfortable (she was already anxious about being in the store without me to order for them). The lady continued to ask her age several more times and then decided she didn’t believe her (even tho she did NOT ask any of the other children). My daughter left the store upset and embarrassed by the stares of all the other patrons and staff. The lady with coloured hair then continued to make snide remarks and comments about my friends mental health (pretty disgusting really) directly to and in front of our children and patrons. (my friend had entered the store and approached her about her behaviour, during the confrontation and Obviously she didn’t appreciate being called out).

To behave this way and speak this way to anyone let alone a child is just downright rude and the last thing we all need during these times is judgment and hostility.

This was a poor end to a great afternoon and it appears after reading other reviews on here, that this type of behaviour from this proprietor is definitely a common occurrence….what a shame that a local family business I have supported all my life appears to have some issues with discrimination and in need of a serious...

Hi there, I'm not too sure who I should be talking to about this, but my partner and I visited Copenhagen Cones Mount Maunganui today at around midday. While we were in queue, one of the staff, who after the incident mentioned she was the manager (Multi coloured hair is the best description I can give of this lady), was unbelievably rude to not only her staff, but the customers in queue as well. She was ordering both staff and customers in a raised, negative tone/voice and visibly made everybody in the store, both staff and customers, incredibly uncomfortable. She said with a raised, controlling, and condescending manner that the customers were in the wrong place and ordering incorrectly, when simply trying to order an ice cream. The manager was belittling to the customers and other members of staff. After this incident, it was obvious that everybody in the store was uncomfortable, with several people leaving without ordering anything. The customer who was originally treated so poorly eventually got her ice creams, and mentioned to the manager that the way she had treated her was unacceptable and completely unprofessional. The manager then said, and I quote: "I can speak to MY staff and MY customers however I want". And stood there with a grin ear to ear as she said this. The customer then understandably angrily left the store. After this all went down, the manager stood there smiling as the rest of the store went silent, not knowing how to respond to this. The manager has no idea how rude she was to not only her staff but the customers too. She never once apologised or acknowledged that she was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. I'm only writing this as it was an awful experience and it clearly made everybody there uncomfortable. To the point that after this happened, several people who were waiting in queue left. Have been visiting Copenhagen Cones for 6 years, every time we’ve walked around Mt. Maunganui as they make the best ice cream and my kids love it. I however will not be supporting them any longer after today’s experience. All I wanted was a cup and spoon for my son’s ice cream cone, which I have requested every single time for the past 6 years with no issue I might add, and was plain flat refused. I requested to pay for it, as I am by no means a free loader, but again was plain flat refused an told by the lady with multi-coloured hair “give me back the cone and you can have the cup and spoon but you can have both”. This absolutely appalling and the people in the store waiting in line could not believe what they just saw and wanted to leave but I told them I didn’t want to ruin their ice scream experience. It seams every single bad review for this establishment refers to the stinking customer service of this one lady with the multi-coloured hair.
