Cafe: 4 stars (Good) Tour: 2.5 stars (Neutral) Overall, the Wellington Chocolate Factory is a cool place to hang out; yummy hot chocolate (if a bit too sweet!), and plenty of games to play, but wouldn't particularly recommend their tour. I'd also like to mention that their website's reviews are not necessarily an accurate representation of people's experiences, because the reviews must be approved before being submitted. The Tour: The tour began with a complimentary cup of hot chocolate while we waited for others to arrive, followed by around 40 minutes of information about History of WCF, and information about the chocolate beans. They passed some beans and other objects around. There was some interesting information, but overall this part of the tour seemed to drag a bit long. It would have been improved by being more interactive, or if we still had our complimentary cup of hot chocolate to enjoy while we were listening. The tour itself didn't show anything you can't see from the cafe, but we got to try some of the chocolate at different stages of being made which was quite interesting. A map of where the beans came from would also have been a plus, especially in non-covid times when they would have more varieties. Our experience would have been improved if they had more varieties of beans to try, as we weren't particularly interested in the flavored chocolate. Lower-sugar options would be a nice addition, such as 90% or 100% chocolate, which I understand they sometimes do. --- In summary, worth a visit to try their hot chocolate and play some games. If you're pretty interested in chocolate but don't know too much then the tour might be worthwhile too!

This is the only place I know that serves hot chocolate with coconut milk as a non-dairy option 🥥 If you like coconutty chocolate then go for it, otherwise go for other milks for a stronger chocolate taste. I liked this a lot 😊 And order a brownie if you’re in the mood for a chocolate overload (give me that anytime!) Also as a chocolate factory, you can see - and smell - the chocolate production day in and out, even when you’re standing outside before opening the doors. It’s absolutely heavenly😇 You can also buy their own special bars of chocolate made there in a variety of flavours in pretty packaging ideal as gifts for your chocolate-lover friends 😊 it’s probably more ‘boutique’ than the conventional favourite Whittakers . Unfortunately the tours were closed when I visited on Xmas eve. It would’ve been great to go for that!

Have visited the Wellington Chocolate Factory a few times during my various stays in Wellington and it gets busier each time. Staff are very approachable and friendly, and the environment is casual and laid back I enjoyed my hot chocolate whilst just sitting on the bench and listening to the attendees of the chocolate classes. The shop has a variety of different chocolate bars to choose from - including limited releases that may not be available at the duty free shops. I will recommend a visit if you are a chocolate lover or would just like to see how chocolate is made in Wellington. 👍

We did the chocolatier tour while in Welly for a girls weekend and it was awesome! They had a dairy free dark chocolate which was cool, and yummy toppings. You get shown how to temper your chocolate to make 3 bars with your own personalised toppings. While they set you get a complimentary delicious hot chocolate, and then they go through some of the history of chocolate making. Once the bars are set you wrap them to take home. Fantastic staff that are clearly passionate about their jobs. Amazing place - yummy too! Definitely 100% recommend!

I had a private tour at the wellington chocolate factory. It was a great experience. Jessica explained everything about chocolate from bean to bar. They provide high quality chocolate from responsible resources (fair trade) all around the world. I enjoyed Fiji and also salted caramel chocolate bar. If you fancy a proper hot chocolate, this is the place you should go. Also love the brownie, but i think not for kids as they might find it a bit bitter. Interior is cozy, you can find some works from local Wellington artists displayed there.

Booked the Chocolatier Experience/make your own chocolate bars, which was fun but not the most hygienic. It was enjoyable to choose and mix your own chocolate toppings, though I wish there had been more options for freeze-dried fruits, like raspberries and strawberries. The staff were friendly, and for NZD60pp, you also got a free hot chocolate and 3 choc bars of your own creation. Overall, a fun experience, but some improvements in cleanliness and topping variety could have enhanced it.
