We have enjoyed a couple of really great meals here over the past couple of months (Oct/Dec), firstly as a couple, then as a group of 5. Both times, we have been well impressed with the variety of flavours and textures on offer, with each dish vying for favourite of the night. The bao buns are essential to start off the night on a high note. On the last outing, we had the pork, BBQ chicken, crab and eggplant baos, chicken wings, chicken dumplings, zucchini fritters, pork spare ribs, mango salad, Banh Xeo pancakes, bun cha Hanoi, creamy chicken curry, and shaking beef sirloin. The only dish that failed to impress was the shaking beef, but otherwise each dish was fought over till gone. The cocktails and beverage menu caters for most, and the ambience is bright and colourful, themed on Vietnamese colours. For the 5 of us, it worked out to $203 for food, and $118 for drinks. They do accept vouchers, which one our party redeemed for the arty and saved us $35 off the price. Highly recommended.

Absolutely amazing. I never written a food review before but I must this time. Finally found the best Vietnamese @Buncha in New Zealand. The taste is authentic. The grilled pork belly with lemongrass marinated has a zing of charcoal grill flavour, the pork mince is juicy, the springroll is not the best but it adds the crunchy bit into the dish with mushroom flavour. Everything is dancing together with the well balance warm sauce (Nuoc Cham) of saltiness, sweet, sour and sweet. The value is also good. It is just generous as the Vietnamese people. The place is cosy, casual with minimalism style on cutlery. Great vibes for lunch and after work dinner. I came back the 2nd time to have @Pho. Saw comment on gg review so I wasn't expecting it to be good. But turns out the Rare beef pho was just as good. The broth offers that Beef Pho's unique taste of long cooking beef bones with spices, the meat is soft and juicy. Vietnamese coffee was not the best but it was good.

I've dined at The Old Quarter twice now within a month and I love it. Definitely the best Vietnamese food I've eaten in Wellington. Great vibe, good friendly service and the kitchen closes late around 10pm, which is quite rare in Wellington. The cocktails are divine and look amazing. I've shared and tried these meals with friends and they're all incredibly tasty: popcorn chicken, soft shell crab bao bun, roast pork bao bun, dumplings, seered sirloin salad, vegan curry, pork belly and pulled beef curry. I was a little disappointed with the salmon and prawn parcels and the rice pancake with lettuce cups in terms of the size and price of the meals, but on the whole the food is delicious. I wouldn't say it's cheap, but all restaurant prices have increased. You definitely need to book a table. I've only ever been able to get an 8.45 or 9pm booking, but that's better than not getting in at all.

Asian fusion at its best! With awesome professional chefs, The Old Quarter brilliantly presents the best of Asian cuisines: Bao buns from China. Pho soups from Viet Nam. Coconut cream and stock-based curries from Thailand and Cambodia. Banh Mi baguettes. Dumplings. Super fresh salads. Unique non-alcohol fruit cocktails and a full-service bar including top shelf international and domestic wines; a nice selection of New Zealand craft beers; Sapporo from Japan on tap and unique alcohol cocktails like a watermelon mojito and a lemon chilli passion fruit margarita. There are also fun desserts like tiramisu and a dark chocolate caramel mousse for that sweet sensation. Whether you're a meat-lover, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or allergy-sensitive, The Old Quarter will customise any dish. And really great value too! The lunch specials are amazing with heaping portions at a friendly price. I visited for lunch and had the vegan special: Coconut cream green curry. A tofu-based fresh summer roll with nice dipping sauces. A bowl of jasmine rice. And mango sticky rice pudding for dessert. My gosh! So seriously delicious. I could tell this place is the real deal when I saw the chefs carefully making up my individual serving of green curry. The Old Quarter knows it has to be even better than excellent to survive in the extraordinarily competivie Wellington restaurant scene and the chefs go the extra mile to make sure everything is perfect. The wait staff are friendly, helpful and attentive. This is a New Zealand go-to restaurant. One to return to...

I have dined here on multiple occasions and this time would have to have been the worst customer service. My two friends and I had just come from a comedy show so were quite giggly & loud. We sat down at our table and it was a long while before anyone came over to serve us or give us water. When one of the staff were wiping the table next to us we asked if they could please take our order. My friends started by ordering a cocktail each, which we were then told that that he was really sorry but he couldn’t serve us any alcohol. When we asked why he just apologised again and said his manager had said so. We found this very bizarre. When we mentioned that we were also ordering food he still said again that he was sorry and that his manager had said he couldn’t take our drink orders. We sat for a moment and decided that we would go somewhere else to spend our money and have a drink with our meals. We were never explained as to why they couldn’t serve us alcohol and found it very strange that the manager wasn’t the one to come over to speak with us so that we could understand why. I am pregnant for a start and as I had mentioned we had just come from a comedy show so were in ‘good spirits’. It was really disappointing and made us feel quite yucky. We ended up going to Lola Rouge where the service and food was...

My partner and I went here last night for dinner for our anniversary. Good atmosphere and staff, however, we left feeling a bit robbed and highly unsatisfied. The bao at $9 each was delicious but hardly worth the money for the size. We then ordered the pork pot dumplings and twice cooked spare ribs to share which cost $17 and $19 respectively. I was shocked when only 5 dumplings came out, they were mediocre at best (really nothing special), also hardly a meal to share especially with an uneven amount served. The twice cooked pork ribs were tasty but only came with about 3 full ribs (6 half pieces) and had little meat on them, so again not much food for the price. I will note however that the cocktails we had were honestly delicious and worth every penny. We were just so let down and unsatisfied with the lack of food paired with the steep pricing that in the end we had to go get more food elsewhere. I just don’t understand why all these asian fusion restaurants feel that they can charge so much...
