Good Asian Food in NZ seems hard to come by. We travelled as a family throughout NZ in Jan 2025, starting from Christchurch driving all the way to Queenstown then crossed the ferry to Wellington and finishing off in Auckland. We tried Asian Food everywhere and were very disappointed to the point we can't wait to get back to Australia for our Vietnamese Food. But when we got to Wellington, things finally changed when we came across Pho Viet Street Food. We finally found good Asian Food after 10 days of travelling in NZ. We initially came for lunch just to try out but then immediately booked reservation for dinner right after. The 1st taste, oh man, it was amazing! it was not only tasty but so unique, something we have not experienced anywhere else. Not even in Australia! Not sure how but the chef have somehow blended Asian's Taste with a touch of Western on some of the dishes and they were so nice! The salads were particularly amazing: from the ingredients used to the self-created sauces that were so unique. It's the 1st time we came across a restaurant that could pulled this off. Most restaurants would just Westernized our Viet Food (awful!) but could not blend them. This restaurant had somehow, blended them together and made our Viet Food better! and it's not just the Pho or the Salads. Some of the dishes were so unique and tasted absolutely fabulous. The fish cooked inside a banana leaf (I think) was truly Viet! there were hints of ingredients we could not figure out but absolutely incredible. The duck salad was our favourite and we wish we could come back for more. On top of that, the staff were so friendly and so welcoming knowing we were from Australia. The two brothers (restaurant Managers Nhat & Long in particular) were so kind to us and meticulous in many little ways that the memory of this restaurant and Wellington will forever in our minds. Auckland offered better variety of Asian Foods than other cities but still, Pho Viet Street Food in Wellington is the place we will be back! Thank you Nhat, Long and all the staff for making our visit to Wellington unforgettable!! Doan & Nhat and our children (Brisbane,...
Read moreI love making food reviews, and when I saw on TikTok that Pho Viet was doing a “stone” pho I was so excited to try it, as the reviewer said it was super delicious. I planned to come for monday night (around 4/5) for an early dinner, as they also had a 2-4-1 cocktail deal. Bargain right! My partner got the WOAP burger which was unfortunately very dry and the chicken was floury, and my stone pho was just okay, and 100% not worth $30 or such a selling review as I saw promoted online. After about a few minutes the pho was cold so it took longer for the beef or egg to cook, there was an okay amount of food, a HUGE portion of noodles (which likeminded to other reviews were sticky and clumped together) this made it very hard to transfer, resulting in just putting the entire portion into the pot. There was some lettuce, no other vegetables besides bean sprouts. I was very sad, as across the road is a very affordable student friendly hotpot place where you can select your own items. The cocktails were very nice but unfortunately were not apart of the 2-4-1 deal despite having it clearly stated on the table with the other menus. My partner and I didn’t say anything as the restaurant was quite empty and staff were doing their own thing, but only now an I realising that unfortunately this fun experience was not worth $90 :/
Fully my fault for not pointing anything out at the time, just expressing that not everything you see online is portrayed in the same...
Read more📍 Pho Viet Street food (Dixon Street) On a miserable cold rainy day, what better way to warm up than a bubbling hot stone bowl of hue? Recently they have introduced stone bowl to their menu, and we enjoyed our Sunday lunch cooking our meal together! Super affordable at $30 a bowl that serves 2, we had 2 bowls between the 3 of us, you could choose between beef, vegetables or hue (which is spicy) we were also told this has the most condiments, so we went with this! The food came quickly, and the soup was bubbling away (do not touch the bowl it's super hot) and we had so much fun cooking our food, chatting away, while watching the rain! The soup was beautiful and not overly salty. Each bowl comes with raw beef as well as the usual ingredients that go into a bun bo hue (Vietnamese ham, pork balls, veges, sprouts, rice noodles etc), plus an egg yolk which we stirred into the soup and I swear it's disappeared 😂 also my friend was raving about Vietnamese egg coffee the other day, and I see they have this on their menu, so this was the first time I had this! Nice creamy foam on the top that you can stir, if you like Vietnamese coffee, highly recommend this! It's like the usual Vietnamese coffee but better 🤤 it's like a dessert in itself! What a great way to spend lunch, they have this every day of the week, during your work lunch break or weekend gathering, just perfect! 😍 P.s. I...
