My friend and I arrived around 6:30 on a Sunday (of a long weekend). Upon arrival the front til was packed with about 15 people trying to split a bill. The hostess didn’t acknowledge us. After waiting for a few minutes I went around the bar side because I could see that the back was not busy at all. I asked the waitress if we could take a seat and she said we had to go through the hostess at the front because she knew the status of the tables. Meanwhile at this point about 3 other parties of people were queuing up behind us.

At least 5 minutes later the hostess said we could sit at the bar area since we didn’t have a reservation and everything was booked. We went to the bar area and sat at a table that had just been vacated. The waitress then came and cleared everything except the water glasses and bottle, and also didn’t wipe the table. We ended up sitting there for a good 10 minutes because we didn’t realize we needed to order at the bar. This is fine but the waitress could have at least brought menus over and said to order at the bar when we were ready.

I eventually went to the bar to order drinks. The bartender was flustered and obviously stressed and didn’t take note of me for an awkward amount of time (even though I was the only one waiting). She then said they’d be with me in a second. When she came over to the til I ordered drinks and said that was all for now and she said they didn’t take tabs at the bar area. We then ordered everything at once.

Getting back to the table I had to clear the old water and wipe the table as well as get our own water. I don’t expect to be waited on hand and foot but some basic customer service would be appreciated, especially when the restaurant section had only two tables seated.

We had ordered a carafe of margarita, which I’ve had before. However this time it didn’t fill both of our glasses to the rim (even when they were half full of ice). Quite disappointing to not even get two full drinks for $25 and the glasses aren’t that big to begin with.

Food was average. Guac was basically smashed avo with some lemon juice, and some seeds and chilis sprinkled on top. Fish taco was nice. Friend’s chicken was dry and grey looking.

This is my fourth time eating at Mexico and it’s gone more downhill with each...

Worst service I have ever received while visiting in Wellington and quite frankly ever. Arrived with my girlfriend and 2 friends and were told it was a 30 minute wait. Cool, no problem. We went to the bar to wait for our table and proceeded to order drinks not long after deciding from what sounded like some really delicious margaritas. Too bad I never got my drink after 40 minutes of waiting for it. Went up to the bar at around 15 minutes and were told ‘they’re coming’. No they weren’t coming. Had to stop the server who brought over our friends drinks, mind you they ordered before we had, love that. She goes to check again. By now it’s been another 15 minutes and one of the bartenders comes over with our drinks FINALLY right?! I tell him, ‘we’ve been waiting a really long time for these’ and he responds with ‘I’ll double check that’ uhhhh ok? Thanks for nothing. At this point we were attempting to figure out who’s drink was who’s so I go back up to the bar to ask what drink it was that I was holding. The other bartender which we originally ordered from tells me the drink and it wasn’t even what I had ordered! So at this point, I’m over it and want my money back. The same bartender tells me I have to go over to the manager for a refund. Great! I go over and explain to her what had happened and how disappointing it was, because I was actually really excited to go here and try the food drinks especially as someone from out of town. She says, ‘so you’re looking for your $12 back’ and gave me my money. Not even an apology or attempt to fix the wasted 45 minutes of my life. Not to mention the same manager also came up to us after we were waiting a half hour for our table to tell us it was being wiped down, but we were never sat for food. Absolutely horrible and disgusted at the way this was delt with. Do not waste your time here...

A group of our friends were very excited to try Mexico (Wellington), however this was an awful experience and I will not recommend it to people from now on. The service from all staff, including the manager last Friday evening was the worst I have seen. We were told it would be a 30-40minute wait and we were fine with that and proceeded to the bar to order drinks. Yes it was busy but to not receive drinks for 30minutes is outrageous and being busy should not be used as an excuse for bad service. 2 of 4 drinks came at the 30minute mark only because we asked where they were (we are patient people but these times are not normal for Wellington bars/restaurant standards), we then waited 40minutes for the other 2drinks which again only came because we asked where they might be. Once they arrived we asked why it took so long as many people after us received their drinks before us somehow and the bar staff said “let me just double check” and never returned to let us know or apologize. We then figure out one of the two drinks are wrong (clearly because they forgot the order after 40mins), and my friend went to ask the bar staff who said “talk to my manager”, the manager then proceeded to basically ask if she wants a refund, no apologies. It’s disappointing you have staff who will actually speak to people in such a rude/condescending manner. The FoH then told us they were clearing a table for us and it will be 5-10 but 15minutes later nothing. We ended up leaving as we felt disrespected after almost an hour of the worst service. We had a lovely dinner with perfect service up the street at another restaurant—how all businesses should operate. I hope your staff can learn from this experience and treat their customers in a respectful...

Loud, expensive, small portions, sassy staff members. Set menu not vegan or gluten free friendly; v few options available. We went here for a friend’s birthday party. I had never been here before. As there were more than 10 people attending the birthday dinner Mexico staff had informed our friend that a set menu would be the best option. She asked whether there would be an equal share of vegan and coeliac options for two of the guests, to which the response was yes. It was recommended we tell the staff on the night and they would ensure the vegan and coeliac had as much to eat as the rest of us, which is to be expected when paying the same as everyone else... Unfortunately, there were only two vegan options, out of a total of 20 different options that the rest of us ate, and of the 20 just under half were gluten free. To make matters worse, they were still charged the full $35. I would recommend calling in advance and double, triple checking that there can be vegan and gluten free options available, to the extent that the vegans and gluten free peeps have an equitable opportunity at feasting from la fiesta menu as everyone else. Other than that, I did not particularly enjoy the food. The restaurant was very packed, which made it loud and hot. The staff were not overly friendly, they were quite sassy. I will not be returning to this restaurant.

Having not had time to eat all day, I was looking for a place which food I would be sure to enjoy I searched online for such place located downtown, found this Mexican restaurant, and immediately decided to travel to it Good move! The place features very typical images on the walls. Having traveled and stayed in Mexico for 5 months, I was brought right there Music is really nice Lots of seats Very friendly and efficient staff And food is a fusion, bringing the best of both worlds They have different types of snacks & sides, tacos, quesadillas, and even desserts, and plenty of drinks to choose from, tequilas, magraritas, mezcal, liquors... I personally went for a "fried jackfruit con cola" taco, a "slow braised ancho & agave lamb shoulder" quesadilla, and a "pan fried broccoli florets" side (my favorite) As a drink, as I don't drink alcohol, I went for pineapple + strawberry soda And "cinnamon spiced churros" as a dessert I really enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, the staff, and the location Oh, and they also have margarita workshops for groups of people who want to learn how to make them Highly recommended, "me encantó"!

First restaurant in Wellington and we already hit on the best one! Unfortunate the entrance is obstructive of the goodness inside, but you gotta go in... it's fantastical! Insanely (in a positive way) & intricately designed that set the vibe. Walls, ceilings, everything in between, the bar, tables, dishes, ... even inside the toilets! Just a delight to be seated, looking around in awe... takes a while to absorb it all, too. The lady who served our table was super friendly, polite, helpful and did her job impeccably. And, the food is INCREDIBLE! The fried chicken (especially with the perfectly-paired dips) being the best thing I've eaten in a long time... we were ecstatic! Followed by the chicken soft-shell taco which is still god-tier... and the vegetarian Chimichangas are delicious, plus Chicken Quesadillas were plentiful and damn tasty! The Pineapple & Vanilla Mexican soda was a surprisingly favourable combination :) Pricey? Yeah, but I'd say if you wanna spend as much as they charge, this is this most deserving place. All in all, a must-visit and then re-visit!
