Tldr: Studying at uni especially animation is a waste of time and money. Don't force yourself to join cause fomo. Try job part time and passion project. All you need is 3 thing, which can be done better by yourself. 1:Technique 2:Tools 3:Improvement/feedback 1.Learn the 12 basic principles of animation and save 3 years. 2.I assume uni would always have latest tech but they don't. TBH build your own high spec PC and use any software including free ones like blender. The goal is to get results so using whatever doesn't matter. 3.Avoid education due to lack of empathy, respect, and high spec stuff. Getting to class took more time than some classes and became irrelevant fast(PowerPoint) and no space or there's a class. Just get feedback online and be more confident and comfortable with yourself. Then upload to LinkedIn/YouTube and get more recognition for future job.
Dog pic for sanity. ♥ Use passion as your drive and believe in yourself.
It was great being taught by Emily in the start. Then by Jason was bad. I 200% hate being taught by Jason cause he was doing his own paper. He prioritize his own work instead of teaching me/students. He gets mad easily & very vocal about his thoughts & ideas. Shouted at me & cant provide a good experience since I had to diy. WHY PAY THOUSANDS TO END UP BEING TAUGHT NOTHING AND HAD TO DO THINGS MYSELF. I thought about redoing a paper. When it was June I decided to quit my job & try to go full out for this animation but it's horrible I have to start from the start & play catch-up. I wanted to learn blender, useless Jason is a 1 trick pony Maya. A teacher that doesn't explore & teach themselves to be able to fully exp more and be able to teach & help more students is worthless. My highschool teacher was way better than him. Ty Mr.hollis. He didn't teach us about the basics of animation but we were learning from each other & let us explore 3d animation and modelling and vfx. 1yr in highschool 3+yr in uni. Also why was Jasn shouting & screaming at me for being late/not attending my classes? He doesn't provide more useful knowledge & doesn't provide a good learning experience. He gets frustrated & makes me want to talk less & I just had enough and left my retry on my paper. @ the end of year greedy guy wants me to rate/feedback. I'd rather send a message that ID RATHER FAIL & drop the pass rate than boost Jason ego & have a paper. I see why tons of people quit so early on. I wished i saw what they saw too & stopped uni & explored my other options. I also remember talking to someone higher up in the design & talking about gap year. & he responded with why would you want to pause or take a gap year. & guess what. 2020. I hate the way society is set up to push the idea of going to uni straight from highschool. I wanted to make my parents proud & I didn't cuz my worse choice in life was this uni. It's such a shame that I couldn't make it & I'm more ashamed for not quiting earlier. I feel so bad for oversea students. Paying crazy prices for YouTube videos & some feedback. Especially those who went through COVID times with me. A bad education system. I had to create a question about the unknown and write a silly essay about it. How am I suppose to know the unknown & write a question without knowing the answer to it? Like my brain by default, tries to think of the solution. Like for example why is the sky blue? My brain thinks of the colour blue & sky. So light hitting particles basically. :/ See how am I going to make a question about a topic I don't know & is interested about & not be able to answer it? Bruh writing essay is just a waste of time & is filtering those who can write & who can't & who is not proficient in English. Which is dumb cause why would we have to write an explanation about of what we discovered when we came to learn? Basically leads back to primary where I learnt WALT : We are learning to... VFX is dead easy & just slap some colours and shapes and make stuff look pretty & call it a day. Gaming is where I think it's worth. It's like jack of all trades. ani &...
Read moreI graduated from AUT some time ago, and my bachelor's degree certificate had been misplaced, so I needed to print a new one within 6 weeks, and the website stated that reprinting could take 6 weeks. I contacted the Aut graduation department but did not hear back from them for a week, so I emailed every possible help to other departments but received no response. I finally heard from them after two weeks with the form I needed to fill out. I filled out the form right away and sent but still required invoice for payment from them, but I heard nothing from them after three days, and I've now wasted nearly three weeks. I actually don’t know when I will hear from them.
I find the entire process out of touch, with no system in place. They communication is so slow that I may not be able to submit all of the documents required for my Masters study abroad.
For example University of Auckland, a neighboring university, had the form on their website and stated that it could take up to two weeks.
In comparison to deal with other universities, I found AUT to be the most useless in terms of getting documentation, and it's unfortunate that you can't get any help even if you're in...
Read moreAny practical skills they claimed to teach us barely scratched the surface. I did a design degree, thinking I would equip myself with all the tools necessary for the job. But they chose to focus heavily on the abstract side, which I understand to some extent, as creativity is crucial for being a designer. However, sometimes being creative can be as simple as making something look nice and pretty for the sake of it. They wouldn’t accept that though. They wanted a deep story behind everything, which often requires you to lie. For example, I can't choose the color red simply because I think it looks good in my design. Instead, I have to come up with some elaborate reason, and those who lie the best tend to get the best grades.
Why focus on abstract ideas that are so high in the sky, when the most basic tools and knowledge required to bring those abstract ideas to life aren’t taught properly? Don’t waste thousands of dollars to go to this university just to listen to them preach all this impractical nonsense, only to end up having to learn the tools yourself. No wonder their ranking dropped from the top 2 in New Zealand to the bottom....
