Overall horrible experience. I booked through booking.com for 2nd of September through to the 8th. When we got there everything seemed good, common areas were well kept and staff were friendly. However the first morning staying there, my friend who shared a room with me, got severe allergies, red eyes, scratchy nose and face, running nose. Second morning same thing, then we found the source, a carpet beetles that was crawling over her pillow 4/9. We went down to the reception and asked for a clean or something to fix the issue. They agreed to clean the room for us while we were out in the city. When we came back to the hotel we asked to make sure the room was cleaned the girl at the front desk said it was so we wen up to the room and it was untouched. We went back to the reception in confusion and they said that they had moved us to another room, which we were not notified of before. So we moved all of our things to the other room. This room was also not up to health codes. Dirty shower curtains, there were white splashes of god knows what. The floor was dirty, and we found more bugs, silverfish and flies. We decided to book another hotel. The next morning we went down at around 9:30/10am and asked the manager for a partial refund 5/09. There were two managers there and they agreed to 3 night refund. They said we had to contact booking.com to get a confirmation email, only then would they be able to give us the refund so we agreed and left. after arriving at our other hotel I made the call and they said it would take a couple days. After I got back to Australia I called Haka house wondering why I haven't gotten my refund and they didnt answer, I called a few mere times and still nothing. So I called booking.com to see if they could do anything, they then called haka house and said they would send me a confirmation email and send me the refund within two days 15/09. two days later, nothing. I called booking.com again, same process except this time, haka house said they would only give me two days refund because they couldn’t give out the room due to booking.com sending the confirmation later in the day on the 05/09 which isn’t our problem as we left around 10:30/11 and got verbal confirmation that we were getting 3 days refund. I called haka house again and they said they’ll speak to the manager and get back to me. This experience was dreadful and draining. Unprofessional managers who don’t care for other peoples time. Almost two weeks after checking out and the issue is still...
Read moreArrived to find the 2 bed private room with linen, towels & fridge that we had booked 8 months in advance was unavailable. We were given a 6 bed unit to ourselves. Ok, no problem, sounded good. We enter the room and found it unclean (the beds were made) but a couple of wee things previous guests were around (hair pins, hair, alot of dust) and no towels or fridge. We were in a bit of a rush so we got changed, threw our belongings in room storage (just incase we came back to find others in the room) and off we went to an event. Came back before we were told the reception closes to retreive some towels for a shower. No one around ... after ringing bells, trying to phone, then seeing the cell phone seeing on the unattended desk, we started asking others in the hostel if they had seen any staff. We eventually found a staff member in the a pool room we discovered. Towels in hand we head back to our room pull our belongings out and find others belongings in the storage area, a further search of lockers revealed more... Clothing, rubbish, food, juggling balls, earings, empty bottles. Down the side of the window bunk was alot of toenails (See photo of some), pretty sure a sports team had lined up and given each other pedicures. There was zero airflow and the room was extremely hot. The windows were barred so they couldn't be opened and filthy with dust (see photo). As there was clothing on the ledge outside the window that had been there for some time I guess the bars were there so no one can throw stuff from the windows. In the morning we checked out and explained the room wasn't clean etc. Did receive an apology from a staff member. We walk out to our vehicle in the hostel carpark to find another vehicle parked behind us on yellow lines. We head back to reception ask them if they know about the car or a number for a local tow company so we can get it out of the way to be told sorry that's a guests car and that the manager allowed them to park there the night before. Staff retrieved the guest from their room and had them move their vehicle so we could leave. Other guests had similar complaints, rubbish in rooms, no cooling, one lady actually left in the middle of the night to sleep on someone's couch because it would be cleaner! The toilets were unclean with overflowing bins the whole time. Only basins were in the toilet. Showers were great, clean and high pressured. The staff were friendly and helpful. I kinda felt...
