My sis and I really love Japanese food and she recommended us to come here during our mini date in the city.
Ambiance 5/5 – Everything was nice and clean! Due to Level 2, they distanced the tables. The inside was spacious which is why there was still ample seating despite needing to distance the tables.
Food 5/5 – My sis ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry and I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and Renkon chips. Loved the Renkon chips that we ordered it twice! Crunchy and well-seasoned, great snack. The portion sizes were awesome! We were nice and full at the end. I enjoyed the Ramen broth because it was thick, rich and had a great umami flavour.
Staff and Service 5/5 – The best about this experience is the staff there. They were so friendly, kind and attentive! One instance is when I came there by myself, I informed them that my sister was still on her way and I asked if I could still sit inside. They allowed me to. Second, some part of my noodles in the ramen was stuck all together and he said it was probably because it was not submerged in the water enough. He apologized and immediately offered to replace the whole bowl even though nothing else was wrong with it! Third, because I was doing some work while I was eating, I had my laptop out and it seemed there was not enough space on the table for my food. The gentleman there was nice enough to give us another table so our stuff would fit, and a couple of chairs so our stuff was not on the floor. I cannot stress enough how much we appreciated his kind gestures!
Thank you very much for a wonderful experience. I hope we can visit...

This is probably one of the only Japanese restaurants owned and operated by a Japanese chef with real technic to demonstrate the "nigiri" sushi making live in front of the customers. Seafood is freshly purchased and presented on the day, not any Japanese restaurant is able to make it. Authentic Japanese food, authentic Japanese way of service, Atsushi-san is working very hard to bring the Japanese culture to New Zealand through his cuisine, you definitely are going to love it!
Please, if you have made a booking, do come as promised because Atsushi-san is preparing fresh ingredients based on the booking, so if you turn up to be a "no-show" that will ruin the food which is a big nono. If you are craving for an authentic and freshly made Japanese nigiri, Ikkyu is the place you...
Read moreIkkyu delivers an exceptional experience with fresh, authentic nigiri sushi made to order. I had the pleasure of dining here during one of their renowned Saturday sushi nights while visiting Auckland, and it was truly unforgettable. The toro melts in your mouth and the chicken karaage was battered lightly, crispy and delicious, though it could do a drizzle of lemon. The service was impeccable — courteous, warm, and welcoming, making the whole experience even more special. The venue itself has a casual, relaxed vibe, perfect for enjoying high-quality sushi in a laid-back setting. While parking can be a bit tricky, there’s a convenient Wilson carpark nearby. If you’re looking for top-tier sushi in Auckland, Ikkyu is...
