From the moment we walked into Casa Velha, we were greeted with warmth and kindness by the staff, instantly making us feel at home. The restaurant itself feels like a little oasisâa hidden gem with a peaceful view that set the perfect backdrop for our meal. The calm, relaxed atmosphere made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
We started with garlic bread, which was so delicious it disappeared within minutes. For our mains, we had the shrimp pasta and the shrimp risotto and both dishes were absolutely outstandingâpacked with flavour and cooked to perfection. To finish, we shared a crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e, which was simply divine: creamy on the inside with the perfect crunchy topping.
As a final touch, we were treated to complimentary pastel de natas, a thoughtful gesture that truly put the cherry on top of an already fantastic experience.
Casa Velha is a restaurant that delights in every wayâfood, service, and atmosphere. A place we would happily return to...
Read moreWe'd reserved a table here but it took 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge that we'd entered the restaurant and show us to the table, although it was busy. Eventually we ordered, a garlic bolo to share and I opted for the Fish of the Day. The bolo was delicious, chewy, slightly charred and not too heavy with garlic. The main course came soon afterwards and was disappointing. Two pieces of sea bass, a thin piece of salmon and a single prawn, served with dry tagliatelle. The pasta seemed almost like an after thought, lacking any sauce with a few finely diced carrots and peas mixed in. There was a tiny amount of herb oil on the plate so this added a little interest but honestly it was so bland and boring, I couldn't finish it. The fish was cooked nicely though. Great atmosphere and setting amongst tropical plants but wear mosquito repellent as there were a few dancing around. The waiters were friendly but given the uninspiring food I...
Read moreThis place tries very hard to deliver an upscale atmosphere with gourmet food. And the food is delicious - for the most part. Fish is awesome. The legumes were cooked to perfection. Even the chicken for my son wasn't the usual dry sadness you usually expect. My beef skewer however (traditional Madeira dish) was rather bland. Ice cream dessert was very disappointing, Creme Brulée however was delicious. The biggest issue here, however, is how crowded the place is and how much stress rests on the servers' shoulders. They try hard, I give them that, but it's simply too much for them. When you have a queue waiting to be seated while the tables aren't yet prepared and everyone is waiting for either their food or anything else, mistakes are made and this really hurts the experience. More than one glass was tipped while we were there and the cutlery was...
