Nestled among the many established Port houses in Vila Nova de Gaia, Augusto's stands out as a family-run gem that offers an intimate and authentic Port tasting experience. Founded in 2014, Augusto's is a relatively young player in the Port wine scene, but their passion and dedication to the craft are evident in the exceptional quality of their wines.
Stepping into Augusto's, you're immediately greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Port wine, and they take the time to explain the different styles and production methods to each visitor. Whether you're a seasoned Port enthusiast or a curious newcomer, you're sure to learn something new at Augusto's.
But the true star of the show at Augusto's is, of course, the wine itself. Their Ports are made from carefully selected grapes grown in the Douro Valley, and they are aged in traditional oak barrels to perfection. The result is a range of Ports that are rich, complex, and beautifully balanced.
I had the pleasure of trying several of Augusto's Ports during my recent visit, and I was thoroughly impressed by each one. The Tawny Port was particularly memorable, with its notes of dried fruit, spice, and a touch of caramel. The Ruby Port was also delicious, with its vibrant cherry and blackberry flavors.
If you're looking for a truly special Port tasting experience in Vila Nova de Gaia, I highly recommend Augusto's. You won't be disappointed.

One of the less than 3% Porto cellars that are 100% Portuguese owned, this cellar only produces around 40 thousand bottles a year, which is roughly the same amount the bigger cellars produce a day. The tour was incredibly less crowded than the others, and the tour guide’s (thank you Sonia!) explanations were crisp clear, very good English, and knew all the responses to our multiple questions. Furthermore, price wise it is unbeatable. You pay €5 per person for the booking, and then €10 in cash upon arrival which you can then use as a discount per product you use. Important note here, to avoid confusion, if there is 2 of you, you cannot get the €20 discount on a single product. The discount is applied only once per product. So you would need to buy at least 2 products to get the €20. Also, additional wine tastings do not count as a product, but the tasting is for free if you end up buying the bottle. For that reason, I would recommend trying one of the more vintage or premium Porto’s. We tried the 40 year old white and red. Totally worth the price, if you don’t want to splash out on a whole bottle of that level. Overall an incredible experience, very personal one as well, and amazing value. I would recommend it to family and friends but not to everyone else so that it does not get overcrowded for the next...
Read moreYeh, this was a nice little tour/explanation with some tastings (€30 for two). It was more like a pleasant sales pitch that you pay for. Some of the information differed a little from the information that we got on the Porto Walkers tour that we were on. I trusted that this tour had the correct information rather than the more boozy PW tour. The tastings included 6 y.o. red and white, 8 y.o. red and white, and a 2018 LBV. I don't know why they don't include better ports in the tastings - to tempt us towards the more expensive end. Personally i don't see the point in the 6 y.o. and the 8 was a bit better, the red being drinkable. The LBV was nice. So we tried the 10 y.o (€7 extra) and that was a big step up in taste and quality. Recommended. The 75cl bottle was purchased (€27 minus the €7 tasting minus €10 of one of the tours plus 10¢ for a paper bag). Quite complicated math after a few drinks. We were in their hands!! I think we ended up spending €47.10 in...
