Rimping Supermarket, Maya Lifestyle Branch — Attraction in Chiang Mai Province

Multiple times I've had employees grab my bags of fruit out of my basket and take them to the weight station. I don't know if this is seen as customer service or not but I found it disrespectful. The fruit is good quality but the prices are 2-3x minimum other places. Ton Phayom market is a 5 minute bike ride South and prices are less than half for identical quality items. Certain things like Thai oranges are ridiculously more expensive, costing 10x more than the markets, especially Mueang Mai market.

Aside from a few specialty items, European goods, certain cuts of meat, most of the stuff here is available at other supermarkets at a lower price.

Edit: I forgot to mention they also charge a 5% markup for foreign credit cards (which they do not tell you, despite being located in a mall filled with tourists), and the exchange rate they use ontop of that is a joke. 35 baht = $1, they convert it at 32 baht = $1. So not only are you getting overcharged to begin with, they are essentially taking another 7% cut without even...

We like this store because it’s close to our condo, and it has a good variety of products, including some vegan and nondairy products that we like. It also has many imported and “western” foods and products. They also sell beer, wine and liquor. I gave it 4 stars because of its rather limited produce department, and it’s lack of bread options and fresh baked items. (There are two bakeries just outside in the mall, though…) We can usually find just about whatever we need in the canned, packaged and frozen food sections, but prices seem higher than some other department stores in the area. (Another reason for 4 stars) We will keep shopping here as a matter of convenience, but we wish that the store was a little bigger so that they could offer...

Reasonably good, but not extensive selection of both local and foreign groceries. Don't understand why they are so paranoid, e.g. security guard watched me like a hawk when I went into the wine section. Ironic given that what I spent was very likely more than his monthly salary. I don't get scrutinized in this manner when I go to places like Harrods in London. Better trained security staff or security cameras would have been more discreet. It makes customers uncomfortable at best and downright rude at worst. If there are places that treat their cutomers...
