I was looking forward to trying this place out as many years ago I used to enjoy roller blading but I had never used skates before, I was a bit wobbly but there is a āpracticeā area at the back, you would think this would be full of people learning or āpractisingā it was not. It was full of people just standing chatting taking up loads of space that was very much needed for people trying to practice. People would be coming off skating the loop at a huge speed there would almost be collisions constantly. There would be multiple times the same few people would come at a huge speed and do some sort of trick almost crashing into someone else. On top of that there would be multiple people standing by the exit/entrance of the practice area blocking people coming in and out. If you are new or quite wobbly it makes you fall over or almost fall over as there isnāt much room to move with all the expert skaters around.
I have no idea why theres no barrier separating the practice area and the main loop?!
I think this place would be better to have a beginner skating session (not lessons) and a expert session, this way it would feel less intimidating to new comers and the beginners would not get in the way of the better skaters.
There definitely felt an air of arrogance from the better skaters which didnāt feel like a nice atmosphere. I had been told this from other people who had came and tried the place previously and coming and seeing it for myself it is obvious.
I donāt blame the staff for this though as the staff I interacted with were incredibly nice and helped me at times when I needed it, my only criticism is for the staff to maybe be more aware of telling people to move from the exit/entrance of the practice area.
I doubt I will come back, Iām glad I tried it but I think Iād rather just state outside and go at my own pace. If you are quite confident at skating this is the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGlasgow has a tough reputation and most of the kids experiences are overpriced with underwhelming staff and kids running amock causing havoc with parents who don't care what their offspring are doing or who they are upsetting.
For the price of entry, I was not expecting much and thought the kids would want to leave after 10 minutes but it not only surprised me in relation to cost, it actually helped me regain some faith that there are still some wholesome, decent places around with fantastic staff that need to be preserved and promoted int he community.
The entire atmosphere could have come straight out of an 80ās Netflix show, great music and the most awesome marshal who I named ā80ās manā complete with headband, wristbands and bright jeans. This guy spent the entire time identifying people needing help and offering advice and tips to enhance their enjoyment.
It was also special to see the inclusivity and wide array of people who were on the rink. On the way to the venue I had seen a protest about migrants in a hotel, lots of angry people with very fixed opinions on why people come here and what they are doing, on the rink I met a migrant family who was so grateful for being there and having a great time whilst interacting with a local family, everyone trying to stop each other falling over but when they did, picking each outer up and laughing even louder, that made me smile and put trust in love over hate every time, kids only need the opportunity to play together to see the worldās not as bad as some would suggest.
All in all a great experience and one I would highly recommend. I now know why its always sold out, it's truly one of the cities hidden gems and my kids canāt wait to return.
Keep up...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe kids had a great time at RollerStop! It's a lovely venue & great for all different ages & skills, most people seem to be beginners which makes the atmosphere more comfortable because there's no pressure to be skating like a professional! The only 2 negative things I would say is that the venue was very cold & the main doors seemed to be wide open the entire time. This may have been to keep a good air flow circulating & to stop people from over heating while they skate. However most people seemed to be keeping their jumpers & jackets on even after almost 2 hours of skating! The other negative point was when it came to the end of our session, it became very clear very quickly that we were being rushed out for the next lot of bookings coming in, even though we wouldn't have been in anybodies way, there was plenty of space and only a few of us remaining. It wouldn't have looked good on the new customers coming in that we all looked annoyed and embarrassed leaving the venue. Staff could have been more patient & polite at this point & used common sense to know we weren't in the way or stopping then from tidying & cleaning the area around us. Overall it was a great day and would recommend it to people of all...
