Nice little museum (for now - it is quite new and growing it's collection) of one the biggest symbols of Russia. It offers masterclasses of painting your own Matryoshka- which this time I was a bit too late for , but will take advantage next time! One can also buy a good quality gift-set of DIY Matryoshka decoration - which I think is a great idea of a present "From Russia with love" :) Very friendly service - you are served tea with cookies when taking a masterclass. The exposition is already quite large and opening hours are a bit longer than most SPB museums.

Our instructor, Elena, was very skilled and helped us greatly, showing us how to achieve the perfect flower using different brushstrokes. I've never had practice using paints as an art medium, but Elena encouraged us to use just the right amount of paint.

The artists provide a lot of assistance, you gain insight into the traditional methods, and get a nice keepsake. There are also interesting insights into the history and various styles of dolls. However this is not a museum, more a workshop with some displays. This is a good thing. The items, made on site, for sale are first rate and very fair prices. Worth going if you just...
