Korall, Gostinitsa — Hotel in Palace District

This is an outstanding mini-hotel. We very highly recommend it. Not cheap, but finest small hotel we have stayed in and we have traveled a lot. Large rooms with large bath and air conditioning. Large, buffet breakfast in wonderful dining room. Wonderful help at front desk and terrific location - within 10 minute walk to Hermitage, St. Isaac, Church of Spilled Blood, Russian Museum, etc. Many restaurants nearby. A little hard to find since on second floor and only very small sign. Negotiations over taxi fares in Russia are often a problem for Americans; high overcharge is common, but hotel can arrange with ease and they add very reasonable price to your final bill. We absolutely loved the space and couldn't have thought of a better place to stay in St Petersburg, especially after having walked around and seeing other options on the way.|||| - This is bang opposite the Kazan Cathedral and a short walk from the Church of the Spilled Blood. And of course a km from the Hermitage.|| - There are many restaurants and bars and cafes in the vicinity. - It has a great breakfast (bread, eggs, sausages, pancakes, yoghurt) and tea/coffee.|| - The room we stayed in was large and had a hair dryer. Si tratta di un piccolo albergo, con poche stanze, in posizione "strategica" al centro di San Pietroburgo. Vi sembrerà di essere in una casa e, trovandosi su di una via pedonale, godrete di un assoluto silenzio. Le ragazze alla reception parlano inglese e sono carinissime. Le stanze sono ampie, funzionali ed accoglienti. L'utilizzo di internet é gratuito. I punti di forza, come detto, sono posizione e quiete. La colazione non eccelle (se non amate le salsicce e le uova dovrete necessariamente ripegare su pane, burro e marmellata e joghurt; decisamente meglio il te del caffé) e tendono a "risparmiare" sugli asciugamani (la fornitura era per una persona invece che per due, abbiamo dovuto chiedere l'aggiunta; se non li buttate a terra non ve li cambieranno). Una dritta per l'arrivo (poiché la prima volta non é facile da localizzare): l'entrada "pedonale" é nella strada (anch'essa pedonale) proprio di fronte alla cattedrale Kazan. Tenendo la cattedrale alle spalle é all'inizio, sulla sinistra, poco dopo un ristorante con dehor di vetro (di cui non ricordo il nome). Guardate in alto e cercate l'insegna (in giallo, in cirillico); non c'é "un'entrata da albergo" ma un normale portone di un condominio; spingete (il portone, sebbene un pò pesante, di giorno rimane aperto), oppure suonate il campanello. Dentro c'é un normale condominio, c'é una portineria che non é la reception dell'albergo. Per trovare l'hotel salite al primo piano (c'é l'ascensore se avete valige pesanti) e lì - e solo lì - troverete scritto "reception"...Siete arrivati! Se arrivate con un taxi, visto che la via dell'albergo é pedonale, sarete lasciati alla fine di un cortiletto interno (prima c'é un altro albergo), davanti ad una cancellata (aperta): varcatela e guardate a destra...L'insegna dell'hotel (e l'entrata) é proprio un metro dopo alla vostra destra (aguzzate la vista perché la scritta in cirillico non aiuta all'individuazione). E' un pò difficile la prima volta, ma poi sarete al centro di San Pietroburgo, in un ambiente grazioso, confortevole e con un ottimo rapporto...
