Really impressive! First church that allows you to go up, until the last step. The view is extremely impressive, the building also. Not many visitors, so you can spend more time and admire the location and the city around 360 degrees. On weekends, parking is free, so it is a must have, to visit. The entrance is free, but, a donation is welcomed. Recommand+++

La chiesa di San Giovanni Battista, conosciuta come la Cattedrale di Maribor, si trova nella bella piazza centrale di fronte all’Università e accanto al teatro. E’ un importante edificio religioso e storico. Le cronache lo collocano nel XII secolo ed è una delle strutture più venerabili della città. Nasce con uno stile architettonico romanico che negli anni ha avuto diversi rifacimenti e miglioramenti. Dopo un grande incendio nel XVIII è stata ristrutturata in stile barocco. Attualmente presenta variegati stili architettonici, che testimoniano le diverse epoche storiche a Maribor. Tra le caratteriste più note dal punto di vista architettoniche sono degne di nota il suo campanile, all’interno i suoi affreschi, l’altare riccamente decorato. L’organo è stato realizzato nel XIX secolo ed è considerato trai migliori della Slovenia.

Steep stairs to navigate towards the top especially, but once up amazing views. Small museum style room at the top with stories of the past. The church bell rings every 15 minutes so be aware when you are right next to them. Entrance is for free but donations welcome.

Die Kathedrale St. Johannes der Täufer in Maribor ist die Bischofskirche des Erzbistums Maribor. Sie wurde 1248 im romanischen Stil errichtet und im 14. Jahrhundert im Chor gotisch verlängert. Im 15. Jahrhundert wurde sie komplett gotisch umgebaut. Später folgten noch barocke Kapellenanbauten. Der Glockenturm wurde im 18. Jahrhundert nach einem Blitzschlag im klassizistischen Stil neu errichtet. Die Kirche ist reich mit Kunstwerken aus dem 15. bis 17. Jahrhundert ausgestattet. Viele Statuen und Bildnisse sind unglaublich lebendig und detailreich gestaltet. Eine absolut sehenswerte gotische Kirche. Vom ehemaligen Friedhof um die Kirche ist noch das ewige Licht rechts neben der Kirche und zahlreiche in die Kirchenwand eingemauerte Grabsteine erhalten.

Something simultaneously grand and simple about the church, definitely worth a visit and a little quiet prayer. It's not the most ornate but it feels welcoming. The front altar of course is still impressive. Entry is free, donations are appreciated.

A really very nice church. If you are in Maribor, you have to see it, even if, in my opinion, it's not the most beautiful place of worship of the city, but it's still beautiful to see it for sure, internally in particular.
