We came two years ago and really looked forward to coming back, however we were throughly disappointed. Very friendly waiter but overall poor service. Items we didn’t order were delivered to the table whilst items we should of had didn’t come. We had these taken off the bill but overall experience was poor and difficult. We never received the water we asked for and I had to ask 3 waiters in an effort to finally get a spoon. We were kept waiting prior to being sat at a table, and once we arrived at the table it wasn’t even cleaned, straws and mess on the table. The food itself was much smaller portions and tasted mediocre, plus the real coconuts of the Pima coladas now replaced for plastic ones. The egg on the beef tartar was like rubber, and the tartar itself wasn’t the usual red colour expected in tartar. I gave it the benefit of the doubt having had a great time a few years ago, but then spent part of the night and morning with a sick stomach. My Fiance has now told me he also woke up in the night and the morning with a sick stomach and, like me, spent a lot of time on the loo in great discomfort. Feel ripped off and made sick for R1900
I didn’t want to fuss at time as my dad was there and dislikes fuss, and especially after the trouble just to have the miss delivered items removed from the bill it was embarrassing and time consuming to make any more fuss at the time. This in itself was confusing as the waiter said he wouldn’t reprint the bill but would come back after doing another tables bill, so I was left to get my calculator out to do the bill, but then he came back and took the bill to reprint. The whole thing was confusing and the evening far from relaxing
Especially due to being sick we of liked a refund but having emailed Beach Cafe via their website and email i’ve been ignored.
It’s such a shame as we loved our visit last time we were in SA and would love to come in future as we come often post-covid. We are also telling friends not to go, we recommend you steer clear too if you don’t want to leave...
Read moreOur visit to Grand Café Africa was utterly underwhelming, marked by a series of frustrations that began the moment we arrived. Navigating to the entrance was the first hurdle; no proper pedestrian access was available, forcing us to traverse a car park and navigate around poorly marked and unsightly storage areas at the back of the property.
The welcome—or lack thereof—was even more disheartening. Upon arrival, instead of being greeted with warmth or friendliness, the staff, who seemed more interested in their private conversations than in serving customers, met us with visible annoyance. When we inquired about a table on the seemingly vacant terrace, our request was sharply denied with a rudeness that was both uncalled for and shocking. The server’s brusque manner made it clear that we were more of an interruption to her day than paying guests deserving of basic courtesy.
Forced to sit at the side of the bar despite plenty of open seating outside, we were escorted to a small booth in the bar area that was still littered with remnants from previous customers. No menus were offered; no one seemed inclined to clear the table or assist us further. After being pointed vaguely towards a sidebar to fetch our own menus, we waited over 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge our presence, let alone take our order.
By this point, our patience had worn thin. We left Grand Café Africa feeling disregarded and disrespected, with a sour impression of what could have been a pleasant beachside experience. It’s clear that the staff here are not only poorly trained in customer service but also seem to forget that their primary role is to facilitate a welcoming and enjoyable environment for guests.
In summary, Grand Café Africa failed spectacularly in every aspect of service and hospitality. For a venue that boasts a prime location and potential for great atmosphere, it's a pity that the management and staff do not seem to appreciate the essence of...
Read moreIf you go to a restaurant for a great atmosphere and to take nice pictures then this is definitely a place for you. But if like me, you go to a restaurant for good food and great service then don't even waste your time going here well unless you order pizza bc apparently that is good. I ordered Prawn Linguine and the actual meal to begin with came cold and late. The meal smelled, like expired prawns or like the prawns weren't kept in cold. The sauce that the spaghetti was dipped in had no flavour at all, like if you give me the same sauce I wouldn't know that it's the exact sauce I ate, it's not memorable, it had no flavour at all, like I'm eating nothing. Had to put like a tsp of salt and pepper to taste something. The hostess was fine at first, Amelia her name I think, she was helpful in welcoming us but after giving us our first course she never came back to check if we need anything else, we had to call her everytime, and it wasn't packed like less than 30 people at the place, at one point I asked her for another cocktail, it never came, she gave us a bill when we weren't even done eating. And we settled the bill (by card) I had extra cash in my wallet, so I gave her all of it as a tip, she then told us this tip is short, and called the manager on us saying why do we go to restaurants when we don't have money, the female manager came to us and told us the waitresses/waiters don't get paid by the Life Grand and can only receive salary by tips so we have to add the "required" tip or else she won't get an income, when we told her we don't have any other cash, she should bring the card machine so we can pay for it, she later said no it's fine she'll pay the tip herself. B.S if you ask me. I won't lie, I was gonna go back to this restaurant to try out other dishes but after the last alternation, I'm not going back, it really left a bitter taste in my mouth more than those bad prawns. The male manager was...
