Heumgyeonggak (Planetarium) — Attraction in Seoul

Summary: This Heumgyeonggak (欽敬閣) is used as research area where Sejong King the Great and his scientists invented Angbuilgu (a sundial) and Oknu (water clock).

About this Heumgyeonggak 欽敬閣 Restored in 1995, these buildings are located near the King's residence shows its importance to the King, especially for King Sejong the Great. Several of his inventions, e.g. the rain gauge, sundial, water clock, and celestial globes were invented here.

흠경각은 함원전과 함께 세종대왕이 유교적 농본 사회를 실행하기 위해 지은 건물이다. 세종대왕은 시간과 천체의 운행에 맞추어 정치를 하기 위해 천문학적 기구와 시계들을 가까이 두려고 했다. 이로서 흠경각에는 장영실이 만든 자격루로 잘 알려진 보루각루, 흠경각루 같은 기술적이자 예술적인 시계들, 그리고 앙부일구와 간의 등의 천체기구 등이 안치되었다. 흠경각 건물 자체는 이중 가장 정교한 옥루가 안치된 곳이였으며, 이 기계는 성종 시대에 수리되었다는 기록이 있었다. 한편, 흠경각은 임진왜란때 경복궁이 타면서 함께 전소했으며, 임진왜란후 창덕궁에 복원되었으나 옥루는 복원되지 않고...
