I must say receptionist was very helpful. But we arrived Wednesday afternoon, room was cleaned again Thursday morning, although not with fresh bedding or towels which is fair enough as we’d only arrived day before, Saturday afternoon no one had been back, we asked cleaners for fresh towels as we’d used ours for 3 days, lovely lady turned up, made beds ( I hadn’t made them thinking I’d get clean sheets) nope just made up the beds that we’d slept in for 3 hot nights. Tv has 7 channels all sounds like German, was told they’d send someone, no one came so no tv. I wish I could put a photo up that I took from the cooker hood, my husband wrote clean me in the dust and although the cleaners have now been in twice, it’s still there??? Night of arrival we went to bar, had a drink each and ordered food, then got a bottle of wine between us, asked for bill, Bar tender charged us 2 pints 2 wines and a bottle of wine plus food, when my husband said “ I only had 1 pint “ the bar man said “ oh I just doubled it up “ really??? First ever holiday I’ve wanted to go home on day 2, certainly won’t be back!!! Another thing great having your own sun loungers but they badly need a good clean, cushions for them are disgusting as they are covered in everyone else’s sweat, don’t think they’ve ever been washed. One more thing is avoid O’Connors Irish bar for breakfast, it’s run by a couple of Spanish guys, food was cold and white of egg was still runny ( yuck ), advertised as €3.50 but then charge €2.50 for a a very small coffee, another rip off. Fuerteventura a lovely island but be careful where...
Read moreOur first time staying here and it’s utterly charming and traditional (which we love) and with everything you need. The kitchenette is small but does have everything - electric hob, toaster, kettle, fridge/freezer, pots n pans, kitchen utensils, cutlery and crockery. Cupboard space is limited but there is a long sideboard. The beds are traditional wood-framed and extremely comfortable. Most rooms have twin beds which is very typical Spanish but can easily be pushed together. This seems to be a very popular establishment, with people returning year after year, and many booking up to 15 months in advance (so booking early is highly advised). The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, checking in was easy. Behind reception, there is a bar/cafe which serves drinks and food at very reasonable prices; a good breakfast and a coffee will set you back no more than £7. They also offer a take away service. There is also a self-service laundry with washer and dryer (€10.50 for washer, dryer and a laundry pod) which we took advantage of. It’s 5 mins walk to the resort centre and even less to the beach. For wheelchair users there is ramp access to most communal places, however most bungalows do have one small step to to get into them. If you’re hiring a mobility scooter then there is ample space to park it. All in all a delightful place to stay, with all the mod cons, but still retaining its Spanish charm and...
Read moreCastillo Playa is a pleasant place to stay. It's a couple of streets away from the beach, it's all self-catering with little one bedroom chalets and is very quiet. The Pro's are that everyone is very friendly, the location is close to shopping, restaurants and the beach. There is free WiFi throughout the complex. The Con's are that there isn't much for families (that goes for the area as a whole), the chalets are quite basic and outdated (older decor, two electric hobs and a microwave, fridge-freezer, two single beds, air con), we came across a few cockroaches but the chalets come with cans of Raid. There is a communal pool but since it's fairly deep you can expect it to be cold. Somehow the children's pool is even colder which defies expectation and physics. There is a laundromat on site which is nice however it only has one washer and one drier so chances are that you'll be waiting to put on a wash if needed.
If you're a retired or child-free couple looking for a budget, self-catering experience then you can do a lot worse however don't expect to be astounded by...
