We have really enjoyed the winery tour at Franco Españolas, it is right there in the city of Logroño so do not miss it.
The tour content is way superior than other wineries because they take a meta view of the history of the region. It was the union of Spanish and French producers (hence the name) after the phyllorexa epidemic that spawn the renewal of wine production and it happened right here at this winery.
The tour is very complete, from the original vats to the cellar where they store their old vintages (that are on sale), our tour guides was very knowledgeable and enjoyed giving the history and explanations. That was the highlight: the tour guide. It made a big difference. And he answered all questions. A real professional.
The tasting at the end is the most underwhelming part of the tour, we almost lowered the rating to 4/5 because of it but the tour guide is so good that the content more than made up for the wine tasting.
Highly recommended.

Read moreNot a great selection of wines in the tasting menu, if you are not with a group. You get a tasting menu with like 6-7 wines, you chose which of them you want to taste and you pay per glass. Prices are between 2-4 euros per glass. This is not the best way to do wine tasting since you have to pay a full price for wines you don’t know if you like and you just want to taste. They allowed us take half glasses of 2 different bottles and pay only for one glass (the more expensive one of course), this was nice and you can ask them too.
The wines are nice, IMO the cheapest Crianza one was the best. The grand reserva is also good. Along side the wine you get some biscottis and sliced sausages.
It is really easy to get there, 10-15 minutes walking from the city center. Just need to cross the river and it’s right in front of you.
They have tours in Spanish and English on weekdays, on weekends only in Spanish. In fortunately we went there...

Easily walkable from the town so no need to worry about transport and the awkward ‘Who is going to drive whilst everyone else gets hammered question?’ Clearly lots of thought has gone into the visitors experience. Immaculate, clean design marries well with older buildings- very classy. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable as he showed us around. Happy to answer our questions and explain the process! We had a wine tasting at the end- one red , one white with chorizo! We opted for flights of 4 glasses afterwards in the bar area. They also have a cool shop- both overlook an enormous barrel section with sexy lighting! What better way to spend an afternoon??? Would highly recommended this winery and tour. Well done...
