Playa San Telmo — Attraction in Puerto de la Cruz

I struggle with the amount of stars to take down because it is indeed a scenic place. Not your usual beach. It is more for the brave and those willing to experience the wild, unpolished Atlantic ocean. Also if you don't mind positioning yourself over a towel on strategically arranged rocks (some would say gravel) by the shore until your bum hurts and you burn under the sun because you gave up trying to shove an umbrella under a rocky surface. It used to be just people laying out blankets on the rough pavement that makes up the open lounge area, without shade or sunbeds, just being resourceful. The local youth don't seem to mind as I have observed, however, as they make their spots usually close to the rock wall, playing their music from portable speakers. Even if it would smell of urine and weed (the latter only sometimes). That's not the case there anymore though. Now there's a decent cocktail bar that also serves tapas until around 5pm with abundant seating and sun shades for the anti-sols like me. And they cleaned up the place too. No more foul smells and fear of sitting on pee. Oh, one important note to add, if you live in the area, specifically in one of the apartment buildings surrounding Punta del Viento, prepare to be serenaded by hippie street performers who come in the afternoons almost every day, with the same repertoire over and over, probably believing they're contributing to the overall atmosphere. To be honest they all sound subpar to me and lack the awareness to try performing better. Imho the best of them all by far is the older blind man who sometimes sits there on a bench in the mornings and sings acapella whilst accompanying himself with claps and stomps. The urban coast of Puerto de la Cruz impresses with the variety of opportunities to enjoy the sea that it offers. Black sand beaches, shoals, piers and saltwater pools follow each other from the Punta Brava area to the Martianes area. However, it is in the city center that we find one of the most traditional bathing spots, the San Telmo beach.And it is that in the environment formed by the fishing pier and the beach of San Telmo, you can admire the most authentic Puerto de la Cruz . The one in which, in the eyes of tourists and local residents, saltpeter and the smell of the sea are perfectly combined. Sorry, soviel ich weiß ist Santa Cruz die Hauptstadt,nicht Puerto de la Cruz Teneriffa, es liegt weiter im Norden.Puerto de la Cruz Teneriffe ist die 8 größte Stadt und hat etwa 30 000 Einwohner.Sie ist eine sehr schöne Urlaubshochburg, mit recht schönen Ecken. Waren schon des öfteren hier, auch schon vor 30 Jahren. Immer wieder schön. Auch der Winter ist hier annehmbar. Die Temperatur fällt nie unter 16 Grad .Oft aber sind es schon 18 Grad u.mehr über null. Wunderschöne vegetative Pflanzenwelt .Hecken wie z.B. Hibiskus oder der Weihnachts Stern säumen die Straßen u.Gärten. Geographisch gehören die Kanarischen Inseln zu Westafrika, daher das milde Klima. Hauptsaison sind die Wintermonate. Das milde Klima zeichnet die 7 Kanarischen Inseln aus. Besuchen sollte man unbedingt den Loro Park, den Teide, den Botanischen Garten in Puerto. Den ältesten Drachenbaum der Insel. Für Wasserratten wäre da noch der Siam Park im Süden der Insel, im Tailändischen Stil erbaut, der übrigens zum Loro Park in Norden der Insel gehört.Den Nationalpark mit den Teide ,den drittgrößten Vulkan weltweit u.höchsten Berg Spaniens,mit 3.700 m. Da oben kann man einen gigantischen Ausblick genießen,falls die Wolkendecke geöffnet ist. Man kann mit dem Kabinenlift hochfahren. Asthma u.Herzkranke sollten aber lieber unten bleiben, wo es auch sehr schön ist. Es ist mehr oder weniger mit einer Mondlandschaft zu vergleichen ,was nicht heißt das hier nichts wachsen mag. Es gibt hier abstrakte Pflanzen u.im Winter öfters auch Schnee, wobei 2018 u.19 kein Schnee gefallen ist. Das Dorf Masca wäre auch noch zu erwähnen,ein Typisches Kanaren Dorf in den Bergen von Nordteneriffe u.so vieles mehr. Achtung: Im Januar und Februar sollte man schon ne lange Hose und eine leichte Jacke mit einpacken, wäre ratsam. Teneriffe immer wieder gerne....
