Batería de Santa Barbara — Attraction in Puerto de la Cruz

The Santa Barbara Battery is a defensive structure adjacent to the Casa de la Real Aduana in Plaza de Europa, opposite the town hall and Casa Miranda.It was ordered to be built to protect the Old Port from possible attacks by pirates and corsairs. This old defence was built directly on the small cliffs to protect the town. It is in very good condition with some very old canons still in place. From here you get a nice view to the left to the port and amusement park and to the right of the town and beach and Rock pools. La Batería de Santa Bárbara es una fortificación histórica que data del siglo XVIII. Construida con el objetivo de defender la costa de la ciudad contra los ataques piratas y las incursiones navales, esta batería es un testimonio del pasado militar de la región.

La estructura, de planta semicircular, está hecha principalmente de piedra volcánica, un material abundante en la isla, que le otorga una apariencia robusta y resistente.
