A must visit place in the southern part of Srilanka. This is a beautiful fortress built by the Portuguese and then secured by Dutch during the 17th centuries. It is easily accessible using southern express way so easy to travel from Colombo or if you take the normal route or the train you can enjoy the coastal side of Srilanka because the normal route and the train tracks are going very close to the beach in this route. There are many shops for souvenirs and items, few museums with old antique stuff, among one i came across a very old well in the middle of a old house now converted to a museum. so many interesting things to see around this place and you can spend at least a half a day to a complete day inside this fortress. There are couple of restaurants and cafes too, but could say that they are little expensive compaired with out side places. yet the experience was wonderful. Overall a good place to entertain and to get some knowledge about the old times and the stuff...

Walking along the historic ramparts of Galle Fort in the evening is an experience that truly makes you feel free. As the sun sets, the fort comes alive with a magical ambiance, blending colonial charm with the soothing sounds of the Indian Ocean. The cool sea breeze, the golden hues of the sky, and the panoramic views of the ocean create a serene and unforgettable atmosphere. Whether you’re exploring the cobblestone streets, admiring the Dutch architecture, or simply relaxing by the lighthouse, Galle Fort offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Galle Fort, is a place not to miss when in Srilanka. The Fort is very big, would take an entire day to walk around. There will be tuk tuk drivers outside who will force you to see the fort with them, but it is not worth as you will skip many good lanes and also one will miss out walking on the edge of the fort, overlooking the sea. Best advice is to walk and explore. There are many tiny lanes with old houses and cafes. So walk, grab some bit and walk again. Inside the fort there is a small flea market with sells precious gems and Srilankan fabrics. There are also small fruits shops in between. Lastly, it would be treat for photographers and people who love getting lost in history.
