I am specifically rating the seal enclosure I walk by on my walks on a regular basis. This is an awful, terrible example of animals being subjugated to just awful conditions just to entertain children. The seals are kept in a pond smaller than many swimming pools, with people constantly harassing them to "make them to something fun" for their kids. The pool is not deep, and the seals have no where to go to get a break from all the people throwing things in the pond or kids screaming. There is little to no shade -i hope the seals are suited to the hot temperatures of southern swedish summers. The Children’s Zoo in Slottsskogen is a wonderful experience for both kids and adults alike. You can walk right into the enclosures and interact with the animals — gently petting goats, sheep, hens, and more 🐑🐔.
Sometimes there are even tiny baby goats that practically beg for extra cuddles and affection 💕. The entire area is beautifully arranged within the forest, creating a calm and natural atmosphere 🌳.
When we visited during the summer, pony rides were offered for just 15 SEK — a highlight for our little ones 🐎😊. The best part? Everything else is completely free.

Read moreThe open zoo in Gothenburg is an absolute delight, especially on a sunny summer day! I had such a wonderful time exploring and seeing all the animals. I couldn’t believe it was all for free. The seals and penguins were my favorites—they’re so adorable and fun to watch. The elk and other animals were also fascinating and added to the diverse experience. The zoo is the perfect spot for a relaxing and enjoyable day out, whether you’re with family, friends, or just on your own. Nice place either for the zoo, or just the surrounding (I saw some squirrels and deers in the forest area). It’s a hidden gem in the city, and I highly recommend visiting!
Tips: visit during seal and penguin feeding time....
